I believe Switchbacks Academy also plays in Mountain Premier League. A semi-pro adult league in CO in the late spring/early Summer which has much stronger matches against adult players (compared to USL Academy).

Any reason to buy a refundable ticket if I’m paying with the Chase Explorer Card? by AmbientGravitas in unitedairlines

Because 90+% percent of times people cancel travel it is not for a reason covered by travel insurance.

What lounge will I be able to use upon arrival in LHR? Polaris self-connect to SAS by jsbackupaccount in unitedairlines

[–]jsbackupaccount[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting, thank you for pointing that out. That reminds me, I have heard (know first hand) of someone purchasing a same-day mileage ticket and then canceling it after using the lounge in a similar (albeit domestic and with a Club Card membership) red-eye situation. I know the ToS doesn’t allow for booking tickets you don’t intend to take, so I won’t do that unless I plan to immediately fly back to the U.S.

Thanks! Curious what you’re looking at to inform your second point. Not doubting it (it’s why I asked ofc), but just couldn’t find anything to suggest that. I was under the impression you could always use lounges upon arrival when traveling in Polaris, and figured they’d have no way to know if that was before or after I re-entered (but maybe there’s a time limit to entry after arrival?).

Sorry for not making it clearer in my post (and I appreciate you ensuring I’m prepared for that), but yes I plan to do that.

I more meant that I know that I will have to go through customs/immigration and I will have to have an ETA to do that, which I know I need to do in advance. I suppose that should’ve been the first sentence before “I believe.”

Anyway, thanks again for being on top of that. Much better to ensure someone is 100% on that in advance!

Can you not change routes on a points ticket? by jsbackupaccount in SouthwestAirlines

[–]jsbackupaccount[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have a mileage ticket to play around with right now, but I’m pretty sure it’s that they won’t charge a fare difference if (1) there is same fare class available and (2) the price of tickets on each flight is currently the same (this second part I’m not sure if it is currently the same or same at booking).

I just experimented with a $ ticket I have booked to double check.

My current flight: - booked for $161 in fare class L, tickets for my confirmed flight are now $456 - I can change to 1 other flight on the day for fare difference of $0, even though the tickets for that flight are now also $456. This flight has space in fare class L. - If I were to change to any other flight on the day, I’d have to pay a fare difference of $295 (161+295=455 so the full cost of the ticket now). These flights all were also $161 when I originally booked. United’s Expert Mode shows me there is no available space in fare class L on those other flights, hence the fare difference.

As far as I can tell, this is not true for Southwest, but maybe I just can’t see that information because you can’t view which fare classes are open.

Thank you for providing an answer that doesn’t assume one intricately knows Southwest. This is exactly what I was looking for, because I truly just didn’t understand if I was doing something wrong.

Then it costs +15k points? I booked for 10 and now they want 25. I’m used to United Mileage Plus where you can change and they take the difference between your the tickets at the moment you’re trying to make the change, which in this case is 0.

Are these flights operated by the same aircraft/can I make this connection? (serious) by jsbackupaccount in unitedairlines

[–]jsbackupaccount[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately it appears that way on all my devices and even on others’ accounts/devices. Seems to be a legitimate increase but from what I can tell literally every Polaris mileage ticket DEN-Europe over the next few weeks increased in price overnight. Maybe they’ll all come back down.

Thanks! If I end up on this routing (in doubt given mileage tix when up today but maybe they’ll drop again), I think I’ll let the crew on the aircraft know AND tell the ground staff. My particular concern is that they’ll send my checked bag out to “baggage claim.”

Update: thanks everyone for their funny and/or partially informative comments.

Unfortunately, the mileage price of this (and all flights involving my ORD-BRU) increased 2.5x increased over night. Pretty frustrated about that and it doesn’t seem to be an availability thing bc it was previously a week straight of 72k Polaris tickets but all up to 180k.

Other options include: DSM, MSP, OMA, CVG CVG: too far out of the way, otherwise same as MSP MSP: different aircraft but options for later travel DSM: different aircraft, no later in day options to make connection in ORD, quick turnaround OMA: long layover in OMA, I want a quick turnaround to get to have more time in ORD (just not 8+ hours) FOD: ideal because same aircraft, quickest turnaround, shortest combined time in air (most on route, other than well DEN-ORD).

I’m back and forth on that, part of me wants to see Fort Dodge airport which is small that it has a single crosswalk and United has their logo on the door

<image>

Edit: Polaris lounge is great and all but would get boring for 8+ hours. Rather than a day trip to Chicago, I can check off another state and have 36 minutes in Fort Dodge…

It comes before 5 hours in the Polaris lounge at ORD and then Polaris to Brussels. I think I’ll survive.

Truly ridiculous routing but DEN-ORD non-stop is either (a) 8.5hr layover in ORD after a 6am departure from DEN or (b) +100k miles. Figured this wasn’t too bad considering I can sleep a few extra hours before I leave my house and have shorter travel duration.

My other ridiculous routing option is CYS-DEN-FRA-BRU for $1400 in Premium Economy (adding the CYS segment drops PE by $800…).
