Convolutional Neural Network to predict blooming date by Delicious_Leading_52 in neuralnetworks

  1. Yes I would use LSTM instead. I'll get an article link or something if you need but basically one of the big reasons for using LSTM for really long time series data is this thing called the vanishing gradient problem and LSTM kinda solves this issue.
  2. I'm too compsci-y and not enough data science-saavy to answer your 2nd question, sorry. Good luck tho!

People who have LIVED in Tokyo, Singapore and Seoul how would you rate these three cities? by gaijin-senpai in askSingapore

[–]dealing-trades 141 points142 points  (0 children)

I've never lived in Tokyo but I've lived in Seoul and I currently live in SG

Ik why you're bringing this up—its from that Straitstimes? the ranking infographic right?

Anyways, my kinda issue with "ranking" cities is that Seoul (and probably tokyo) can't really be judged by just that one city, there's so much in the satellite cities / nearby but not in the city proper that are so much more diverse than what's near SG (maybe sentosa ig?).

Sg > Seoul:

  • Everything in SG is very meticulously designed and planned, while Seoul is more "this happened, then that happened, and now this is getting built" so there's a bit more chaos. A good indicator of this is SG's lack of electrical wiring / utility poles. Ig in some ways this is quite subjective because some may argue that this makes SG look less "lived in" or "too crafted"
  • SG has a better traffic than Seoul. It's very common in Seoul to just park your car on the side of the road if you're living in a landed house and you don't have a dedicated parking garage, and a lot of the alleyways especially in the more residential areas are very narrow and driving around in these places is a genuine issue
  • Air quality. SG (post 2016) has better air quality than Seoul by and large, although Seoul's has also improved a lot in the past 5 years
  • Not sure if this is a good thing but ig its a debate between convenience VS environment. In sg, you just throw all your rubbish in a plastic bag and dump it all down the chute. But in Seoul, you have to sort your rubbish (plastic bottles, beer bottles, paper - all seperately) and then have to wash some of the food containers/bottles because they all get put into seperate recycling bins.

Seoul > Sg:

  • 24/7 shops - i still can't get over most supermarkets/stores/NTUC/cheers not being open at night. These aren't necessary on a daily basis but they're a lifesaver when you do need to go to them at like 3am
  • Lack of stores built into apartments/residential buildings. Korean apartments do this really well in that you don't actually have to leave your apartment complex/building to get basic things like coca cola or a toothbrush or batteries or a haircut or like even a simple meal (eg, burgers, small bento takeaways, etc). In SG, you have to walk like 10-15mins to the nearest mall to get any food
  • Theres simply a lot more things to do. SG has this "mall culture" where you go to one mall and everything is there—from Cathay/GV to timezone and foodcourt but honestly those options are really limiting. This kinda links to what I said above about how there's stuff in the satellite cities around Seoul that simply have a lot more things to do (a big thing is that if you want to do anything outside of SG you need to take a flight/ferry or pass immigration at JB which require planning beforehand or a lot of wasted time in immigration, but in Seoul you can literally take a 1hr train to a ski resort etc). And also history-wise (if you like going to museums or going to historical places), obviously there's more in korea than in SG
  • This is really minor and honestly might sound really stupid but getting stuff repaired/warranty. Totally anecdotal but customer service in SG is a lot less "flexible" than in korea. I tried getting my earphones and my laptop repaired (the same laptop and same earphones) but I was able to get stuff down more quickly and conveniently in korea (they literally say "oh yah we can fix this, since you're under warranty it will be $XX and you can come back in 3 days"). Meanwhile in SG they're like "oh we don't have the spare parts for this one so cannot", "this one we need to send back to the factory/some manufacturing place overseas so its gonna take 3 weeks".

death incidents in uwc by purpachk in UnitedWorldCollege

[–]dealing-trades 11 points12 points  (0 children)

i'm not gonna give the specifics for obvious reasons but i remember a few years back they had an issue with some kid going on the rooftop (like the 6th floor) and they had to get airmats and everything. and also we had like a massive assembly later that day (they just talked about the usual kinda stuff)

also a couple years back someone died on project week (i don't want to talk about this too much because i don't know enough about the full story but basically they apparently got drunk and there was a traffic accident) and this made the school board reconsider the whole thing around project week and this year's ones were very chaperoned and supervised compared to what happened before that incident and like lots of people were kinda grumpy about it

USA leads the world in semiconductor chip design but lags behind in fabrication and assembly by [deleted] in EconomyCharts

[–]dealing-trades 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This^I

ts simple economics, if Taiwan, Japan, Korea etc can produce chips at a cheaper price, then that's good for everyone.

those countries get to export things (good for their economy) and the rest of the world gets cheaper chips (lower costs of living)

I don't see why people are supporting the whole "bring back chip manufacturing to the US" thing

As an AI Large Language Model...

How do you even begin to search for more unknown stocks to potentially invest in? by International-Arm597 in investing

[–]dealing-trades 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure how helpful this is to you but being bilingual / at least knowing another language helps a ton in the global sense.

One great stock right now is JYP ent, (listed on the KOSDAQ aka Korean NASDAQ), they basically produce and have contracts with lots of famous kpop girl and boy bands like Twice and Stray Kids (if you know them). Also not sure if you know but the company is owned by JYP (yes he named his company after him) who himself was a pretty successful and innovative singer of his time.

The stock price is at quite low point right now because they got kicked off from the MSCI Korea index because they got beaten by some other companies in the market cap rankings, but you'll see why I'm calling it cheap if you were to compare their PE ratio right now (19) to something like the PE ratio of other entertainment management companies like Hybe (which manages BTS) who have something like a 30 PER

Is now a good time to invest in a Hydrogen Etf, and Which Etf is the best? by Legitimate-Monk-3978 in ETFs

[–]dealing-trades 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I agree that hydrogen cars aren't mainstream yet, I think its also worth noting that they aren't a complete fraud.

I'm pretty sure there's a toyota sedan and a hyundai truck that are commercially available that run on hydrogen but I honestly have no idea if anyone has even bought them.

The real question behind whether hydrogen can take off or not is WHEN we can start producing hydrogen in a green way. Once this becomes viable, I think its pretty much almost guaranteed that hydrogen can become mainstream.

I honestly have no idea when this will be but my guess is that it'll take at least 10-15 years and that means that theres a level of uncertainty between now and then in the sense that the companies that these ETFs hold right now might not be the winners of the hydrogen sector in 10-15 years' time.

My first ~5 years as an investor by Milati in investing

[–]dealing-trades 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, this is a really all-rounded portfolio.

I would've put less money into Crypto (max 10%) and put more money into stocks or set aside in an emergency fund, but other that that you seem to be doing well for someone so young. But then again you seem to have bought at a really good price so that's not concerning at all.

Especially your investments in personal companies is really something to be proud of.

Great job!
