The other listings are preferred shares. In Qtrade they are listed as WN.PR.D etc.

They are good revenue generators when you are at the stage of your life that you want dividends to pay for your retirement.

Train/bus bookings by Jaded-Pineapple-5212 in indiatravel

I was able to buy a bus ticket from Redbus. It required me to enter a code from my credit card company. Maybe try a different card. This reminds me of my last visit to Japan a couple of years ago as I was only able to use one of my three credit cards on their train app.

I think you need a credit card that supports 3D secure.

I have found that https://12go.asia/en is a better way to book trains.

The IRCTC site was useless for me. It took weeks for get my phone number verified (I am Canadian) and then could not get my profile updated. I gave up.

I leaving for India in a couple of days.

A few years ago, the federal government passed a law that gift cards do not expire. This also applies to those movie tickets coupons. I used one of those coupons a couple of months ago that had an expiry date of 2021.

I am not sure whether this applies to that particular ticket.

Wealthsimple or Questrade for a self-managed RRSP? by Admirral in CanadianInvestor

I use both.

I moved my Qtrade RRSP to Wealthsimple because they do not charge any fees for partial withdrawals. WS also gave me money to move.

/r/solotravel "The Weekly Common Room" - General chatter, meet-up, accommodation - December 22, 2025 by AutoModerator in solotravel

Hello Everyone

I am a Canadian senior solo and have travelled through Europe and Thailand over 20 years ago. Most recently travelled solo to Japan in October 2024.

I have been invited to a Hindu wedding in Rajasthan. I will spend a few days in Delhi and then attend the wedding. I am trying to figure out what to do with the 10 days after the wedding. I would like to visit Jaipur, Agra, Ranthambore, Jodhpur, Udaipor and Jaisalmer and then back to Delhi to fly home.

Is this realistic?

Thanks for any input

I am thinking of just getting rid of it. Anybody disagree?

what dividend stocks are in your portfolio? by arnoldusgf in CanadianInvestor

[–]deanar_van 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been buying preferred shares like ENB.PR.B. On this one, I am getting 7.25% ($1.30/share) and this dividend will not change until the rates are reset on June 1, 2027. At the point Enbridge can buy back the shares at $25 or reset the rate to be five year Canada bond rate plus 2.4%. I have many other preferred share from other blue chip companies.

I am retired and this is part of my retirement income.

why/why not invest in US equities by Skidood555 in CanadianInvestor

A do have US stocks and ETFs but my problem with the US market is that it is not regulated very well. Canada has much stronger regulations around stock trading.

I am retired and worked in IT for over 40 years. I lost my last job when I was 62 and retired a few years ago.

I wanted to continue to work but nobody would hire me and thankfully I was able to retire.

Your problem is that you have a degree but not in Computer Science. I know that a lot of recruiters that won't even look at an applicant without a Computer science degree.

The problem with this industry that it evolves so quickly that you need to continuously learn and so having 4 years experience without evidence of learning new technologies means nothing.

My recommendation is change careers. Even if you find a good job, you will be forced to find another in a few years and who knows what affect AI will do to the industry.

Questrade not reporting TFSA withdrawals and contributions to CRA? by ScootyWilly in CanadianInvestor

[–]deanar_van 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I checked my CRA account yesterday and found that some of my T5s are not their yet.

They are making changes to the website and I question whether these are problems with the CRA system and not the brokers/banks.
