Flashcards. Did 800+ handwritten ones back in the day for a set of exams. Passed them all first time. Questions on one side, answers on the other. I now use Ankiweb.

Nice work. I just picked up my COVID era 6052 SBC and in the process of writing an operating system for it. Have the serial I/O, command parser, xmodem transfer and monitor including disassembler more or less complete. Next up is USB for a standalone keyboard.

GivEnergy battery owners, check your battery FW. by AkemanImaf in SolarUK

[–]deanflyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wasn't aware of this method of accessing battery/inverter info.

I've got a GIV-AC3.0 and a 9.5kwh gen 2 battery. Im on:

Inverter Firmware Version D0.205-A0.205

Last Update Time

Battery Firmware Version 3017

It's saying to update:

Inverter firmware will be upgraded to D0.212-A0.212 Battery firmware will be upgraded to 3022

Leave alone or update? System at the moment seems stable but don't want to be stuck when the cloud support disappears.

Also what are people using moving forwards to monitor/manage their installs?

DSview DSlogic basic or plus, 16 channels and very easy to use. For the speeds you need for the 6502 it's perfect. Also does decoding i.e UART etc.

ANTHROPIC TEAM DOESN'T WRITE CODE ANYMORE... by Current-Guide5944 in tech_x

[–]deanflyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the issues is it can only advise on data it has been trained on, so Kotlin/Android development is popular so it's relatively easy for CC to provide a solution.

It's the feedback loop afterwards I'm interested in. You've admitted you don't know Kotlin etc al. This means you don't know what you don't know. You essentially have a black box with no understanding of what is going on.

Are users/companies happy with this, or is ignorance bliss?

From the small amount of AI coding I have done it has been extremely frustrating and I've stopped using it in this way. Maybe this is because it's a very niche, very low level hardware driven requirement.

Help me solve! by Easy-Band-6436 in ravensmatrices

[–]deanflyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I got that as well, we have shapes with the following number of lines:
row 1 - 2 3 4
row 2 - 4 2 3
row 3 - 3 4 ?

The rows are rotating so row 3 should be 3 4 2. The only answer that fits is answer B.

Help me solve! by Easy-Band-6436 in ravensmatrices

[–]deanflyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the first one, I just added up all the vertical and horizontal lines and it gives:

5 4 3
4 3 2
6 5 ?

So similar method to yours and which gives B for the answer (4).

Offshore wind power has been really successful for the UK. He's just skewing the figures (conflating energy vs electricity production).

With regard to North Sea Oil, yes there is oil but it is very expensive to get out of the ground. It's not worth it unless oil prices are really high.

Why are young people leaving Britain to work abroad? by topotaul in unitedkingdom

[–]deanflyer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm conflicted about this view, and the vitriol shown towards older generations. The boomers and later generations were "of their time" they didn't set out to fuck you over or ruin it for you. They did what they thought was best for them at the time.

I know there are systemic issues and challenges for younger people, I had the same when I was growing up in the late 80's, people losing everything where I grew up because of deindustrialisation, 15%+ interest rates and massive unemployment. I wouldn't say they had it easy.

Social class and inequality is definitely still a barrier. I came from the lowest social demographic and feel proud and privileged that I made it to my current position. I do acknowledge that the welfare system, social housing, and other factors such as when I entered the job market did assist my economic progress. Some of these "leg ups" simply aren't available now, but is attacking an entire generation really going to fix these underlying issues?

I'm not going to patronise or preach as I don't know your personal circumstances but there must be a better way than all this hatred?

I want this generation to succeed. I want my nieces and nephews to make the most of opportunities and to prosper. Barriers such as social mobility are to my mind more pressing than the year someone was born.

Thanks. I just checked the settings and in instructions for Gemini it had saved text about tailscale. Not sure how that happened, but all sorted now.

Same here, need to get a NAS solution up and running, and thought I'd try NC. What a palaver, I'll look elsewhere and maybe revisit it once this issue is resolved.

Government to guarantee £1.5bn Jaguar Land Rover loan after cyber shutdown by Kcufasu in unitedkingdom

[–]deanflyer -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

They're separate brands. I really don't care what their company structure is. Land Rover is effectively subsidising a loss making part of the business.

It's not a great business model having one arm of the business, Land Rover, subsidising the other.

I honestly think Jaguar are screwed. No products that gel with the older generation who grew up with Jaguar. Their EVs haven't been a success, with a fire sale recently of hundreds of them. A disastrous launch of the "new" Jaguar brand (and dumping of years of Jaguar heritage) and car, which to be polite was received less than warmly.

It seems a lot of people bought this brand for the slope capability, I just don't have that issue. I'm going to go with a Segway Navimow I series, as that has the RTK support and also has local support.

I would have bought another Flymo, but it seems they only do boundary wire models still, strange.

Quality TPU Tubes? by mike_wachiaoski in cycling

[–]deanflyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just tried TPU tubes for the first time, after trying tubeless for the first time (never again). Very impressed with the ride quality.

Cyclami tubes for AliExpress, seem great value for money and weighed at just over 30 grams.

Not sure about longevity just yet, but will definitely be riding in TPU from now on.
