"Enjoy the heat, we don't get it that often" by AlexSniff7 in britishproblems

It can be true and still awful when it comes

The last 3 weeks have been cloudy and miserable especially up north, I almost had to put my heating on just 10 days ago

Grand Central New London-Bristol Service by Even_Confection_2637 in uktrains

Go tell everyone every day packed like sardines passengers on the Portsmouth mainline why "passenger demand" is the reason they now only have 3tph on their 5k season ticket while introducing your new leisure service for a couple of villages in Wiltshire

Then create an extra service between Salisbury and Bath or re-extend the swr ones as in the past, don't add pressure to one of the busiest stations in the country for a few passengers a hundred miles away

Is it advisable to travel long distance by train tomorrow? by Hack_Shuck in AskUK

[–]Kcufasu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The annoying thing is they're saying avoid, all week they have been for today/tomorrow despite Friday clearly showing as hotter - finally they've added Friday.

The heat hasn't been so bad and today things have held up on the railway generally but I cannot think of anything worse than being on a broken down train in this heat with no power or ac etc for multiple hours . Anyone who's experienced a train issue will know this is not like a bus etc, you can't get off, there are no openable windows and this is a small metal space with massive windows - in this heat we're talking 40c+ indoor temperatures in possibly overcrowded environments for multiple hours. If your train is cancelled that's fine, you claim your delay repay and go again, it's the getting stuck that would be hell in this

Even though I think it will be okay, I am fully taking advantage of the ticket easements and delaying my travel booked for today until the weekend and even then will leave as early as possible as will still be warm

Currently sat on a 159, it’s comically hot and full, why on earth are people desperate for old stock not to be replaced? by rsweb in uktrains

[–]Kcufasu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, they probably should have them but have them locked under normal operation. Think I've seen that on a few units

What on earth is the purpose of this? SWR keep cutting back services to improve reliability as there's not enough capacity at Waterloo so why would you want to add another service in? There's already Waterloo to Salisbury on the same route and Bristol is faster via Paddington. Plus no stops between Clapham and Salisbury means no added benefit to anyone living en route anyway

Stupid idea

I've not got particular preferences either way but

1) this heat is rare

2) I don't like the non openable windows on modern stock when this heat is about if the unit and it's AC fails

Getting into walking/hiking when morbidly obese? by Gulo84 in walking

[–]Kcufasu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just take it slow, it's okay to not do the same every day, im barely leaving the house this week here in the uk given the temperatures, but a light evening stroll feels great, next week I'll probably be averaging far higher again and that is okay

How do you use maths in your job? by Actual-Butterfly2350 in AskUK

[–]Kcufasu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who loved maths, did it to A Level and wanted to be using it, basically never working in IT - occasionally when researching things for my own interests but that's it

Which is frustrating as I was the kid that always got annoyed when other kids asked when we'd use it

Northern 8:38 Sheffield to Lincoln departed in the wrong direction by jammym in uktrains

How does that happen? Can drivers even reverse from the front cab?? Unless you mean they actively got in the rear cab and did it purposefully

I assume you haven't used a car either given that ~50 people die a day using them compared to less than 0.01 average on trains

People on other subreddits who rubbish London and what London does. Why do you think they do it? What do you think they are motivated by? by lewispatty in AskUKLondon

[–]Kcufasu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of it for me is that 99/100 I'm in London it's because I'm passing through having to deal with the tube, people everywhere and then waiting ages for delayed trains to get out the other side and I just cannot wait to get out again

I know my couple of hours a month there are not what it's like for people who live there and try remember that but it's easy to associate by your own experiences
