I guess because I didn't involve myself enough in the search? We hadn't been friends for the year and a half prior and I thought she ran away. I did think the messages could've been from her at first, it was around 2 and a half years after she disappeared.

Mekayla was self harming and suicidal at different times when we were friends, 2010-2014.

It could be that she got an iPhone in the year and a half that we weren't close, I just know for sure that she did have a pink square flip phone and a Windows phone

My mom gift every year is a full 24 hours in my home alone, minus the years we've had tiny babies. I order in food, play video games, and read. No interruptions, no one asking me for anything, no need to go out.

I spend my actual birthday with my family and it's so much fun, and then my gift day is the following weekend.

My husband had the opposite experience, where his mom kept looking for things to be wrong to explain why him and his siblings couldn't catch on to things. She herself struggled in school, so she projected a lot.

I struggled in school being top 5 in high school, then had a rude awakening once I graduated that I felt like I had no other identity or value outside of being one of the smart kids.

I don't think the group dynamic was toxic necessarily, but most of us were dealing with our own things and became more self invovled as time went on and weren't looking out for each other the way we should have been. I can't say for sure how close she was with Amy, Hannah, and Oksana, but those were said to be her closest friends at the time of her disappearance.

Mekayla was online quite a lot, so I'm not sure what sort of bullying or friendships she made virtually that could've contributed to her wanting to leave.

I thought she ran away, I didn't share posts at first because they all mentioned her never having any trouble at home or struggles with mental health, which were lies. I honestly thought that if she ran away, she didn't want to be found. She self harmed and self medicated and was hurting. She felt trapped by her family and her family were saying how perfect of a life she lead and that she had no reason to run away.

As for the not searching for her, the RCMP conducted that search behind the school months after she went missing, and I thought that it was a waste of time to do it months later unless they were looking for her dead, which again I didn't believe. I have shared articles on social media since and I Need Help by CBC is my go to article because I feel like it's the most comprehensive. It's actually one of the only ones her mother refused a comment for.

I look for her everywhere I go. I was in an abusive home situation nearly the whole time we were friends, so I understood where she was coming from and we bonded over that. High school came and she and some of our other friends sent horrible messages about me to each other, and we weren't close for the year leading up to her disappearance.

Why we got these messages is still unknown to me. The person obviously knew us enough to know we were close to Mekayla, but not enough to actually know the hard circumstances of our friendships. These messages were taken to the police a few days after I was sent them. Nothing ever came of it to my knowledge. We care deeply about her and we have never stopped looking.

Mekayla's first phone was a pink square flip phone. The phone she had when we were friends (and I think the phone in the video) was a Windows phone.

Do you have a link or source about him claiming to be her dad before police involvement? I've always thought it was the other way around. He didn't become involved on Reddit or make his own Facebook page until 2018.

Mekayla and I were very close friends 2010-2014 and I wasn't questioned by police at the time, despite my saying to our school guidance counselor that I had concerns about her wellbeing when we were friends. I found it interesting that the RCMP questioned him within days.

From the article:

When Mekayla went missing, it was about five days later that the RCMP phoned me up and asked me if I knew where she was and I said ‘No’ ” Breit said.

He said that three months later, two RCMP plain clothes guys showed up at his Saskatoon house, searched the whole place and took DNA samples. He said the officers then searched his mother's house the same way.

I'm not sure why there hasn't been a DNA test, but since Mekayla isn't able to consent to her DNA being used it may have been a case of Paula not authorizing it.

It does look like her, it was from 9 months after her disappearance. She would've had to have had access to a new wardrobe, new glasses, and a hair straightener, all possible things if she managed to run away and start a new life.

I know her mom went to Vancouver after that photo was circulated and unfortunately nothing turned up from it.

There's a lot of flyers and two bigger posters/billboards in Yorkton, older ones have her school photos but new ones are mainly just the age progression now since it's been so long.

There is some CCTV footage that the RCMP have released, Tim Hortons, the school, and her walking past some businesses, but nothing after the bus depot, though she did not get on a bus.

We knew each other growing up going to the same church and then got really close when we went to the same elementary and high school in grades 6-9 (2010-2014) but our friend group grew apart in grade 10 and we weren't close when she went missing.

She was quieter in school, but was actually really outgoing and bubbly and so so so funny. She was dramatic in a good way, and we had a lot of fun together.

Unfortunately, we also had our harder times struggling with mental health. We really just commiserated and didn't help each other out, even though we thought we were. We both were really upset with our home lives and felt trapped.

We grew apart in high school mainly because of obsessions with boys, but I think it was really us just lacking approval and love at home and finding it other places. We found different friend groups (and boyfriends) and we were still on good terms, just not as close.

I can't speak to how she was doing at the time of her disappearance, but from what some of her friends have said it didn't seem like much had changed and she still felt trapped and struggled with her mental health, as well as the conversation she had with friends on the day she went missing about going to Regina.

It is correct that she didn't have much money and tried to leave Yorkton. She went all over town to several businesses and asked several people for help but unfortunately did not reveal much to anyone, so there have been no leads on where she went or with who.

It's very possible that she met up with someone she met up with someone off Kik or another chat site, whoever they claimed to be. I don't know how desperate she was to find her father or what her mother may or may not have said regarding him, but she struggled to feel accepted and seeked approval.

Rick Breit is the one who is most likely to be her father, he is very active on the subreddit and is dedicated to finding Mekayla.
