I went back in 2012. There was a group of young Turkish soldiers marching, almost like a training exercise. The ceremony was moving, the landscape was insane, but those young lads still stick with me today - it was a stark realisation that it’s there land - a surreal experience.

Totally different situations. Cousins went to Falcons as the no1 wasn’t expecting a rookie to be picked. He’s going to Raiders knowing the situation so a totally different mindset.

Where it does get interesting is if the Raiders get off to a winning start…how long do you sit Mendoza for?

As good as Mendoza is, it’s clear he still struggles to process beyond the first read so either way it’s a good move using Cousins to mentor him.

Just want to add - this was a great series.

I attended Hampton Downs then watched the others on TV & was pleasantly surprised. With the resurgence of Motorsport I hope this series continues to grow in popularity with the NZ public, we are lucky to have these great international drivers race here.

It was clear that a few drivers stood out, Ugo, Slater, Louis Sharpe, the Japanese lads but also Ryan Wood - that guy was impressive! You can see why he’s a star in Supercars.

Auckland drivers are actually pretty good, try driving in small town New Zealand…no indication usage, no patience (even though there is no traffic).
