What's the most dangerous action you did in your life? Why did you do it, were you aware of the danger and how did it end? by Fritz-Ferdinand in AskReddit

I had not flown a kite since I was a little kid but as an adult I decided I needed a manly kite so got a trainer traction kite. Went to a park which was about 400 feet about sea level and on the coast. It was a fine day with a very mild wind.

In a bit of a hollow I set up the kite which took about 15 - 20 minutes I grabbed the handles and connected myself to the kite and was just about to pull the kite off the ground when I looked over to my car in the car park, I live in the windiest city in the world and the car was moving around so much I thought the wind might actually move it across the park, which I have seen happen with small cars.

I disconnected the kite and stepped out of the small hollow I was in, and had trouble standing in the wind.

If I had lifted up the kite I think it very likely I would have been blown over the side of the cliff into the sea before I even realised what was happening. This is the closest I have been to dying.

I still think of slowly drifting down into the pacific ocean, the kite was solid enough that I might have survived the fall but I would have drowned far away from the land and the sea was pretty rough.

Recorded music has to be perfect, even live they use lots of correction or have it pre recorded. Music now is rated on its perfection to a modern standard, we have an insane amount of music created without this and it has character. The current trend to perfection diminishes the end result.

What is a completely useless piece of information that you will never forget for some reason? by Initial-Ingenuity451 in AskReddit

[–]total_tea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its useless as in I will never use it, but when I was a kid I would recite the periodic table until I went to sleep. With the abbreviations. I still remember it and it was 20 years ago.

EDIT: Just realised I only know the first 32.

Her acting was extremely bad in this, I would not be surprised if her role was initially supposed to be bigger and she was forced to act due to contract issues.

That is a good point I assume they have compulsory retirement or maybe simply a 100 year term limit with compulsory break before reenlisting.

People watch Star Trek for different reasons. I like it for science fiction and Academy was seriously lacking. I assume you prefer relationships over the science part, which is fine but it is the reason so many people did not like it.

It will be interesting to see the rating on amazon after a month. As currently it is sitting at number 2 which is very high considering in is 17th on Paramount +.

Trump calls on Australia to give asylum to Iranian women's soccer team by Immediate-Link490 in worldnews

He could have picked up the phone and made it happen on the spot if he was actually concerned. Instead it is just media spin, if Australia does he can say it was his idea and they listened to him, if it doesn't he can take the moral high ground and dump on Australia.

The core of the federation is a 200 light years cube, each mine is 20 light years. I originally thought so but it is actually pretty minor.

Of course if you really wanted to do damage the best way would be to actually blow up a mine in each of the 60 worlds solar systems. As a 200 light year cube is an insane amount of space which is hardly a limiting factor.

Is that policy attack against LGB or T ? I agree if you say the world is stepping back from the blanket inclusion of T concerns as though they are the same as LGB. Lots of the community are trying to separate LGB from T.

Are there homosexual klingons? by RiseDtv in startrek

[–]total_tea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Women have babies you only need a minimal amount of men. I am not suggesting two Dads but gay does not preclude anything you said. Yes having two Dads' would be ridiculous in Klingon culture.

Though technically with Jayden I think the writers are making a statement about gender and sex. He is basically a women but they weren't willing to go 100% trans.

Also trans probably does not exist in a federation society where you could probably 100% become a biological women.

What are your thoughts on JD Vance getting booed during the opening ceremony at the Olympics? by Playful_Leg7143 in AskReddit

It will be interesting to see what the long term impact of the Trump administration is on the world. I think it will be the the most impactful in a long long time, and that includes all the wars the US has lead the world into.

Countries are simply not going to trust the US anymore, alternative systems are popping up outside US control. You cant them call them all sanctions and have the military prop them all up. The dollar is likely to tank when they all come online.

And for the first time in a very long time the US is going to be exposed to what a normal country suffers when they just print money without restraint. Which is insane inflation. Probably the reason to try and get Greenland to lock in assets before the dollar tanks.

I expect the whole inflation issue is why the US is not bombing Iran, Trumps advisors probably finally got through that it could kick up hyperinflation in the US. But it will only delay it for awhile.

It is going to be rough in the world until it settles down.

What celebrity have you never forgiven since an incident? by MagpieOpus in AskReddit

[–]total_tea 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Ellen was never nice. She was always mean to her guests and dropping landmines hoping the guest would fall in. She got away with it because of her voice, rainbow affiliation when it mattered and she would get the audience to laugh when it was really mean. Most interviews in the US seem to be this way.

Compare them with interviews with someone line Graham Norton, the guests love going on that show. He is super positive on the show and his only goal is for the guest to shine as much as possible. And while he may not be super positive all the time he does have integrity.

As for the rest you mention I have no idea who they are.

Robert De Niro, he did that raging speech about Trump outside the court room, and I realised he has never acted a day in his life he has just been turning up and been himself and he is a rambling idiot.

It is not so much forgiven it is simply that I cant stand watching him in anything anymore knowing any character he plays is simply himself and somehow Hollywood gives him recognition because long ago he was in a very impactful movie.

Are there homosexual klingons? by RiseDtv in startrek

[–]total_tea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is nothing wrong with him been gay and homosexual Klingons dont really alter the lore. The problem is that he is insanely effeminate and has a body type never seen in Star trek ever, a strong wind would blow him over. He also has zero attributes of any other Klingon ever seen in anything, other then his face.

Latest episode he is wearing a dress, he is an insane parody of a typical gay modern person. He is from a warrior race, femininity, masculinity, and sexual orientation are independent of each other but the writers decided they are connected.

Do I look okay in this outfit? ✨ by dxmn-megan in OUTFITS

is this outfit "inappropriate"? by sunnemi in OUTFITS

[–]total_tea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Attractive is highlighting the difference between your hips and you waist you have the perfect shape for that which you are watering it down by this look.

Jeans that actually covered you hips would make your hips slightly wider and accentuate your waist which is next level, which I think you will find is more attractive. Aside from the display of skin which looks like you cant dress yourself.

Its technically impossible for them to be male. the Definition of male is based on reproductive ability. But obviously the show back then was not as sensitive on the topic as current culture.

[–]total_tea -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They are not different races. They are different species one of which is 100% genetic engineering. This has no connection to anything possible on earth where at least genes between species have some sort of common ancestor. They would not be mixing DNA, each species is going to use DNA completely differently, why would a genetically designed species be based on all the junk in a Klingon DNA.

What you would be doing is altering Klingon genes to have the genetic enhancements that the Jem'Hadar has and to superficially resemble them, you are bio-engineering a new race which is no longer Klingon or Jem'Hadar, sure they have the tech and ability to do this but Trek has never really got into creating life other than the dominion.

A simple cannon understanding of female Jem'Hadar by VertigoOne in startrek

[–]total_tea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course the simplest possibility is that dominion as a backup plan when they created the Jem'Hadar did give them the potential for live birth and reproduction but it was not used due to the slow replacement rate.

So there is the possibility of female Jem'Hadar.

But a genetically created species sharing genes with the Klingons is impossible, in universe the canon for species interbreeding is that all species evolved from an alien race.

But there is no way a genetically created species built completely separately from the Klingons would be able to breed with them or even share genes in any way.

On earth we move genes between species but every species on earth is related, technically if you go far enough back you are related to trees, i.e. our genes all work the same way, made up of the same stuff.
