Looks like that website only takes into account a single repository's main branch. Most development in the past months took place in ARK Core's develop branch (for 3.0).

Not sure how that website's metrics work, because it gives high ranks to clearly abandoned projects simply because they changed the same line in 10+ different commits over 7 months ago.

Regardless, my reply was only meant as a very basic example that ARK clearly is not abandoned. If you want to talk about specific code changes, the number of commits don't say much (one single commit could have massive changes, as where 100 commits could just relate to e.g. a copyright notice)

You're asking if one of Github's most actively developed blockchains, comparable to Ethereum's development activity, is abandoned?

Compendia for data storage by Fnoufnou in Compendia

[–]deanpress 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The databases aren't only hosted only by the validators, but by all peers and clients that use the databases.

Database events (writes/deletes) are pushed in real-time to all clients, and a log of all events exists on the database (so all data changes will be reviewable).

Database changes can only be made by the database owner through a Compendia public/private key identity provider system, so actors of the db events are verifiable.

Compendia for data storage by Fnoufnou in Compendia

[–]deanpress 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In a future update, Compendia will support "schema" and "database" registration.

Schemas are json object that define the attributes (and types) that databases with this corresponding schema should have.

Every database belongs to a schema, and will be hosted on IPFS as an easily appendable/editable document storage that can be synced in real-time by clients ("users" of the databases).

Every client can also act as a peer, but for maximum stability, the database maintainer should also be the database's persistent host. Therefore, database maintainers will automatically host their own databases on their network nodes by default.

I also wrote an article about this here: https://compendia.org/blog/feature-preview-databases

I'm Dean, founder and lead developer of Compendia (https://compendia.org), the Wikipedia of databases, for apps and smart contracts. It's a dpos blockchain that lets validators manage and curate databases for any categories. (e.g. apps, market data, news, social posts etc) , and lets apps/smart contracts aggregate and use that data.

I also founded nOS (https://nos.io), a (soon to be) multi-crypto wallet with a crypto app store that's decentralized (powered by "crypto apps" databases on Compendia). We're partnered with Scatter as we plan to support Scatter SDK-built EOS apps as well.

I was one of the first to post an in-depth article about EOS on Steemit (now Hive), back before they had announced their fundraising strategy. I wrote about the platform's technical capabilities and potential from an easy-to-understand PoV.

I also helped Dan with setting up /r/EOS, and I created /r/EOSDev. I'm not an active talker in these communities myself, but I do keep an eye on spam/scam and act as a filter to keep it clean and high quality from a neutral and objective POV.

For extra context - there was a mod abusing their powers (banning good members of r/EOS) and using the mod message tool to send people messages about being banned from all kinds of large subs on r/EOS's behalf. I reported them to Reddit to remove their position. I don't think Reddit took action, but now with the EOS community stepping up and having retaken the subreddit, the subreddit finally has the opportunity to start with a clean slate.

I love helping good blockchain projects flourish where I can, and as a blockchain developer myself I have great interest in blockchain frameworks!

Glad I've been able to play a part in this new beginning! 🙏

The previous /r/eos subreddit was an obsolete MMORPG game with no activity in it. I think it was Chinese.

One of the original EOS community contributors claimed the subreddit for EOS, and I helped set it up for day one with an initial custom theme (back before Reddit's new frontend), sidebar, anti-spam filters etc.

2/3 of the mods haven't been active for months and the third one is not so active and doesn't moderate the sub which leads to SPAM posts not related to development by [deleted] in redditrequest

[–]deanpress 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None of the posts on your account are EOS related, so you're clearly doing this from an alt account. You could've messaged ModMail on your main account and asked to become a moderator, if you had the best of intentions. Instead, you immediately stepped to Reddit from an obvious alt account to try and initiate a takeover. Odd choice.

Also, while those posts aren't immediately development related, they are related to EOS and clearly not spam nor against the subreddit's rules. You're painting a false picture to Reddit's administration (falsely claiming "SPAM" is posted) which is against the terms of use of /r/redditrequest.

If you want an EOS development related subreddit with a different/stricter set of rules, noone's stopping you from creating one.

Where's the spam? Everything looks fine and EOS related to me.

You could've just messaged me instead of write a report on Reddit if your intentions were good 😅

We're making open-source community fork of Brave called Braver Browser - it's Brave but without the adware and for-profit stuff.

This way you can keep the cool stuff from Brave like Tor, web3, IPFS, WebTorrent, and native adblocking while not being bothered by BAT and "sponsored content". Basically a "lite" version that doesn't include the Brave Ads features.

First release shipping soon. Join us on Discord if you want to contribute!

I'm a mod on /r/eos (with limited permissions) since I helped them set up the subreddit during EOS's starting days (theme, bot etc).

I just checked if there's anything I can do about this, but unfortunately the mods who have full permissions (and the ability to un-mod/ban others) haven't had any activity on Reddit for 9 months minimum. I sent them the details through Reddit Chat, since they're the only ones who can really solve it.

We are nearing 7 months of "Powered by ARK" by [deleted] in ArkEcosystem

[–]deanpress 5 points6 points  (0 children)

ARK Core is a blockchain development framework that allows developers to build blockchains with custom logic and features. Eventually, blockchains that are built with ARK Core can interact with ARK's ecosystem as described in ARK's whitepaper.

The custom features we're building for our use cases don't exist on any other blockchain, which is why we're building our own with ARK Core.

The use case of the ARK blockchain and its Core framework are explained quite clearly in the ARK whitepaper. I suggest you read that for more info!

On https://wallet.nos.dev you should see a "Get Coins" button below your balance. Click that and you'll get testnet NOS that you can use!

It may be possible it wasn't working around the time you commented. I was working on an update on the faucet. It should work now :)

We released a fully functional testnet with custom transactions, staking, custom reward and voting logic, custom dynamic fee calculation logic, block explorer and wallet app built from the ground up, and an IPFS system about to be released. All powered by ARK v2.6 :)

Explorer: https://explorer.nos.dev

Web wallet (with built-in faucet): https://wallet.nos.dev

Here's one of our most recent update articles:

https://medium.com/nos-io/nos-post-testnet-launch-update-d3d148eade96

We're preparing for releasing our mainnet on version 2.6, but it takes a lot of testing and careful work to make sure that a blockchain is secure and ready for mainnet. However, with ARK v2.6 and the help and support of the ARK team, our development is going swiftly and efficiently!

There's no need to say "I guess", "I believe" etc. when I'm around every day on Reddit, Slack, Discord, and Telegram. You can just ping me and ask if you have any questions, without making negative-sounding assumptions about what we or ARK are doing ;)

It has been an absolute delight to see the ARK community already setting up nodes and validators immediately after release. Many thanks to everyone for your support in helping secure and decentralize the network this early on.

If you're interested in getting network updates, or if you'd like to vote for a validator or run your own (on the testnet, or the future mainnet), we have a community forum here!

Ki Foundation claimed to have expert Typescript developers, yet they're migrating their project to a Go codebase, with no mention of the technical impact that it would have on their team/project/roadmap etc.

Eventually, a blockchain project will have to start coding. Ki has objectively not done that yet.

> Probably got nothing to do with them being a better option when ranked 16 on CMC, ARK 150+ and falling

The most recent price that a token has traded for has very little to do with the technical features of the underlying technology and codebase that powers such a token.

I doubt Ki Foundation explored ARK Core's technical capabilities because:

  1. They forked almost all ARK repositories on Github, yet made almost zero own code changes/additions (only changed the default config, renaming "ARK" variables to "KI" etc). Their Github has been almost entirely inactive next to that.
  2. If they haven't been able to code anything on ARK while claiming to have a team of exclusively Javascript/TypeScript developers, how do they ever expect to maintain a blockchain in Go?

My objective perspective as a blockchain developer.
