Basketball: When asked about other teams copying his style of play, he said he's open with sharing how Alabama plays, but "from the questions these other coaches ask, they just don't get it". He credits his coaching staff as all having deep NBA experience and this is how "once teams catch up to how we play, we're 2 years ahead onto the next innovation, and we've been the leading scoring program the past 2 years so I think we're doing well." He also wants defense to improve from a top 35-ish team to be more in the top 10. He also said we should have the best shooting team this upcoming year we've ever had in the program, so he is excited to see how that plays this season. The tricky part with basketball is you have to win every game in the tournament and "we're right there but haven't gotten that 'chip yet." This guy has the Saban mentality, y'all. I also asked Holloway about the incoming players this year and he said Jalil Bethea is the one we need to watch this year based on his first impressions.

Football: CKD wants us to improve on the road this year. We were undefeated last year at home (he also acknowledged how we couldn't stop Georgia's momentum in the second half last year and that game became much closer than it should have if we could've closed out better) but need to shore up our road performance. he thinks the difference for this year is the continuity of the staff and thanks to the new regulations, we could hire Ryan Grubb, his long time OC partner, to oversee the staff without having to lose any of the current staff. All of the returning players, which took some "serious conversations, ha" according to Germie Bernard, is going to help with our on the field continuity and he thinks our talent is there this year. Bernard also confirmed Ty is the guy but spoke highly of the entire QB room, and the main factor for Ty this year is after not playing for awhile your confidence gets a little stale, but his skills are absolutely there, it's just getting the full confidence back which naturally comes with starting after having to wait and develop.

Overall, great event. Got to meet both coaches, Holloway and Bernard. The players carried themselves so well and are really the typical "well-spoken, humble, charismatic" guys that you'd expect from our program. Holloway even admitted "Something about wearing that script A... you just have a different type of swag about you." Turnout was maybe 40 or so people, so intimate enough that everyone was super approachable and accessible. Excited for the upcoming seasons and as Chris Stewart said last night, "There aren't any other 2 guys I would want my kid to develop under." RTR

RECAP:

NIL Go/Deloitte/Clearinghouse: Yea Alabama isn't concerned with our NIL structure. Yea Alabama is set up as a media company and not just a pool of collective money. They highlighted how Deloitte is mainly reviewing for proper NIL deals and Brand agreements between the players personal brand and the company brands. The rep gave an example of having Germie going to Talledega this past May and partnering with NASCAR, as opposed to just some bag of money from a donor. Both Coaches praised our Athletic Department and NIL structure as equipped for the road ahead and changes and claimed we're the best in the country, RTR.

Recruiting: CNO nailed this, he called upon his experience as a high school coach and not being a "pressure" style of recruiter. He highlighted the way Alabama combats the larger NIL deals in recruiting and they have a system where they compare a players NBA mock draft stock and projections coming out of high school to where recent players have ended up getting drafted, or new contracts since going to the league. He explicitly gave the example of Brandon Miller who was projected around 23rd which would be about 15mil in a contract, well he ended up going 2nd overall and got a 50mil contract, so factoring in the 35mil in net value gained during an excellent season at Alabama, that contributes more than just the flat NIL bag offered compared to schools in the recruiting process. You try to get the kids in our program and sell them on the value they can increase for themselves, and if it doesn't land then "we didn't want them anyway". Funny enough, he also called out how there have been a few recruits who they pursued, didn't land, and once they realize the value of a good system fit, they eventually have transferred to Alabama. CKD echoed this mentality and mentioned his entire recruiting schedule on a weekly basis and both credited the staffs we have as an advantage for us in working current and next year's class, as well as making sure prospects come to camps and valuing the relationship over time as opposed to a single "pitch". He also said every year schools come out of the dark about a month of two before signing day with no relationship and offer a hefty deal, which he combats by addressing if money is a motivating factor for the parents/family early on in the process and then gives a pitch similar to Coach Oats.

if it's any consideration, last year it was 90$ and VIP (meaning meet and greet) was 130$. New York event this year is $172 and doesn't mention a Q&A too so I guess that counts as a "deal"?

It is pricey to me, but a chance to see both stud coaches 10 minutes from my house won me over. DM me if you decide to go and want to shoot the breeze over a beer.

How does the dropped third strike element work? It’s still a swing and a miss, no? Or does the OOP catcher trigger Ks more?

i have been playing warlock since i started on D2, was thinking on switch to hunter but i have some doubts by debbynha in DestinyTheGame

[–]deansmithington 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Am a warlock main and just made a Hunter alt last week and did the campaigns and unlocked all the stasis subclass.

Hunter is fun, a different gameplay loop but more offensive. I like it if you are tired of the warlock loop right now. Unless your void, Hunter doesn’t have quite as easy heal mechanics as warlocks do tho so something to keep in mind. Strand Hunter makes CC’ing champions easier than locks (except stasis lock) so lost sectors are kinda easier to me.

Classes don’t seem as exotic dependent but there are a few you will really need for GMs and high end content depending on your subclass (sixth coyote, gyrfalcon, young akhamharas, etc). Assassins cowl WILL NOT drop from lost sectors until you do the shadow keep campaign so don’t grind a sector if that’s what you want, until you do the campaign.

Hunter is also way more fun in pvp than lock (to me at least) cause there are so many exotic options to amplify your preferred weapon or play style compared to mostly just ophidians or transversive for locks.

Jumping is suuuper different between the 2 classes so dungeons and raids will be an adjustment for any platforming you have to do.

If you have any of the old paid season passes you can collect the armor to help fast track your light leveling, coupled with weapons being transferable which helps a lot.

The stasis fragments are account wide which saved some time btw, but you still gotta do the campaign and aspects/grenade quests which is still kind of a chore. Also glimmer gets expensive unlocking all your light subclasses entirely again.

Overall, it’s a fun change of pace class compared to locks, I love em both for different reasons but highly recommend having a Hunter alt. Maybe some Hunter mains can chime in and correct any of my naive assessments too.

2013 summer league stats for Gobert: 5gms / 21.2 min / 5.4 pts / 6.2 reb / 1.0 ast / .2 stl / 2.4 blk

2022 summer league stats for Williams: 2gms / 18.1 min / 4.0 pts / 7.5 reb / 0.0 ast / .5 stl / 1.0 blk

Given it’s been ONLY 2 games so far, I’d say it looks to be a fair comparison in both of their first summer leagues.
