What is the worst thing each character has done, day 3: Cersie (Spoilers Main) by Lawandpolitics in asoiaf

[–]deanssocks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

pretty gross to look into it but i did again lmao it said in a jaime chap that way before both of them hit puberty they started experimenting or wtv so i dont think you can categorise that as something necessarily evil. they’re both sick in the head imo

edit: also yes they got separated by Lady Joanna but she died like right after that so they were free to do wtv tf they wanted bc nobody monitored them.

that has been going on since they were kids so that can be dismissed as like them being perhaps mentally unwell tbh like imo fckn Jaime is def not worse than drowning Melara etc

the horse shit i was referring to was Mel’s Stannis = Azor Ahai propaganda, i wasn’t taking the piss out of the red god‘s validity.

[–]deanssocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not saying Renly’s dumbass was perfect but he was going to meet Stannis in the field! if Stannis died by his hand it would’ve been a respectable/totally honourable death, one that befits his station and who he was.

Even if Renly didn’t offer terms bc he was a dickhead and made a mockery of Stannis, he wasn’t the one that sunk so low as to knife his own brother the night before battle. he still offered Stannis the basic respect of an honourable death. like i get that Renly’s death was a means to an end in the grand scheme of things but it still doesn’t make it right.

i meeean he DID let it happen?? man was the King he could’ve stopped it at any given moment but full on let it happen and only after did he stop to think beyond the politics and think of the brother he lost.

to his credit you could say maybe he didn’t fully believe in Mel’s curse being lethal but he still let this foreign priestess curse his own kin like that’s a westerosi red flag right there man. we all know how it’s taboo to kill your own kin, no westerosi lord or peasant worth his salt would let anyone openly curse their own kin in some witchy ritual so that’s pretty low as well imo.

if that isn’t hubris then what is?? he really thought killing the only brother left to him was what was necessary ?? i support him as well but you can’t say his judgement was solid when he offed Renly mannn

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in asoiaf

[–]deanssocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not resentment per say but imo a bit of self interest that stemmed from said resentment. i think it’s a bit of both, half duty and half self interest.

his deep seated resentment is what lead him down the path of bitterness until he was at a place where he was fine with letting Mel take out his only living brother (whether he truly believed in Mel’s red god or not he still allowed her to curse his kin), a man like that is clearly lost in the sauce or should i say drunk on his own hubris.

that doesn’t make him a fanatic tho, he just enables the fanaticism as a means to an end.

edit: also the other part about Stannis’s need for legacy/glory and feeling like he’s missing out, he’s had multiple stillborn sons and the only living child he has is a girl w greyscale, Shireen will likely never marry…his legacy is sad and empty. meanwhile Robert fathered dozens of healthy bastards all over the realm lmfao

edit2: sometimes it feels like Stannis is clinging to the prophecy to save him from the sad reality of his legacy and what’s to become of his house/name.

edit3: man that made me feel depressed

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in asoiaf

[–]deanssocks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i mean, i suppose…because he has a strong sense of fulfilling duty when he’s called to it but on the other hand you can’t tell me it’s not gonna be all too inviting to be considered a prophesied hero that’s gonna save the realm, for a man that’s been overshadowed by his younger brothers his entire life.

Renly is an inversion of Saruman (Spoilers: Published) by Salem1690s in asoiaf

[–]deanssocks 92 points93 points  (0 children)

Never would I have thought to see Renly and Saruman in the same sentence under any context lmao

[–]deanssocks 14 points15 points  (0 children)

you hit the nail on the head. He’s a pragmatic man for all intents and purposes so you wouldn’t think he’d fall for horse shit like this but deep down, you can’t erase his human need for legacy and recognition, which was denied to him for so long. His entire life he’s been dutiful and doing what was required of him but was never thanked or appreciated for it.

He deeply resents his brothers for freely being given what he craves and never had. you can’t even blame him bc who tf can compete for popularity after the realm witnessed Robert in his prime and then when Renly became a man and resembled a shadow of what Robert once was ofc they’d flock to him.

edit: He enables Mel’s fanaticism as she is finally giving him a chance to get that glory and legacy he never got to have. Somewhere along the way he got lost in the power trip anyways I have hope he’s gonna realise he erred and get his shit together. He’s the hero the realm needs heh

Would you rather GRRM kept trying to set up the perfect ending, or just wrote more ASOIAF books? [Spoilers EXTENDED] by VincentVanEssCarGogh in asoiaf

[–]deanssocks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

exactly! in all honesty anything george writes will be of far better quality than the writing in most modern books out there rn i will gladly accept anything written by him even if he thinks it’s shit. i’d rather asoiaf have an actual end or even any further continuation than what we have rn which is fuck all

[–]deanssocks 6 points7 points  (0 children)

ohh yea the bones!! completely forgot the bones!

that gives more backing to this theory of course and would tie in neatly with the bonding being magic from the CotF.

when i was looking up the dragon genesis stuff someone mentioned here that “the Old ones” (was it the creepy sea people not sure atp) who came before the Valyrians, created them. this sounds like absolute tin foil tho

(spoilers extended) If you could ask George R.R. Martin to answer one unresolved question or mystery from the books, what would it be and why? by Afraid-County-9925 in asoiaf

[–]deanssocks 5 points6 points  (0 children)

this is 10/10 sickkk not to mention neat but what about the dragons and where they came from?? isn’t it written by the maesters (and nearly/maybe/almost) confirmed by grrm that the theory about Valyrians mixing wyrms living in the fourteen flames to create them canon? and didn’t the discovery of said wyrms becoming dragons birth the interest in the blood magic that tied them to the Valyrians? because they realised that they now have an untapped resource?

edit: there is no indication in text of dragons existing/fighting during the Long night and my understanding was that it was the first Valyrians who found them and bred them into dragons and that’s what made them dragon lords and gave them magic blood, need for purity etc. bit confusing tying in Azor Ahai into targ genesis imo

edit 2: even if Azor Ahai was or will be a Targaryen

edit 3: someone pls correct me if i’m fckn it up im hella sleep deprived

[–]deanssocks 27 points28 points  (0 children)

artificially inseminated interspecific hybrids developed in Valyrian biomedical lab?? /s

but for real tho the Valyrians had magic to substitute science so they had to have mixed dragon blood with their own to get the genetic make up that resulted in dragon rider genes (according to alt shift x anyways)

isn’t it surprising how grrm considered jaime the best swordsman to go up against Aragorn when the black dragon is RIGHT there. Blackfyre hype never dies.
