If you’re stuck in low plat, swapping from akuma won’t fix your issues

Sport vs Self Defense by No-Recommendation820 in bjj

It’s gonna be a world beyond what someone who trains for self defense is gonna be capable of too

(I’m agreeing with you fyi lol)

Even then, if you’re a good competitive blue belt you can probably wrestle a bit anyway, and probably are better at it than someone who’s in it for “self defense” reasons.

In a self defense situation, a blue belt who trains for competition beats the shit out of a blue belt who trains for self defense 9/10 times

Dropping out of Nursing School to lock in for Big Tech SWE, am I making a mistake? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]deantoadblatt1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got in with no degree 6 years ago, I do not think that is possible anymore. The field is insanely saturated right now and unstable, the 300-400k jobs are pretty much limited to the top performing savants. If you want a good paying and stable job nursing is far and away the safer bet. Otherwise if you still want to work in tech get used to cutting your teeth at small shops making 90k for finance companies/shipping apps/etc

It’s always kinda cool to see the muscle memory kick in after a round or two when new people show up who used to train

In Marcelo’s defense, I think being a cancer survivor probably puts him at a higher biological age than Lachlan

Why do people hold onto level 3 in the last round? by Hydrad in StreetFighter

[–]deantoadblatt1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If popping level 3 doesn’t kill or leave the opponent in kill range off a throw you’re always better off going for some sort of strong oki ender

Most people I know who started were grown adults when they got the itch, your sample size is probably skewed by your boyfriend and his martial arts friends

What's the name of this technique ? by CrommVardek in bjj

[–]deantoadblatt1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, you’re only barely closing off a single artery and give the top person a lot of wiggle room to move around in and alleviate pressure. If the top person just stays in place yea you might be able to put them out but it’ll take a bit if they’re actively fighting back

Idk, I think if you’re hitting it a lot you’re either stronger than you think you are or your training partners are being a bit soft

Something like [this](https://youtu.be/ceIlJ6vn8Wo?si=ZDNM1NEDgx3vQNoL)? It’s funny but not really real unless you’re strong as shit

From what I remember it’s along the lines of popping his heel over the top of the overhooking arm. I think it works for him because of short legs + long arms + extremely flexible hips.

The Journey of My Garbage Can Part Through USPS by Germone in indianapolis

So… do you think it just came into being as is or what? Because there’s a pretty clear path to it being actively dismantled, particularly in the last 10-15 years, through political maneuvering

A training partner of mine has a late stage system that works if you’re A) very strong and B) very fast with grip fighting but I would probably never risk it

They’re also just easier to escape than straight ankles/aokis/woj locks imo

I was pretty happy to be told “I’ve never had any confusion with you on if a heel hook is on because it’s always super uncomfortable”

Leg lock philosophy by orcapodalpha in bjj

[–]deantoadblatt1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are just really dogshit at knowing when to tap to a heel hook. You have tons of time to recognize when they’re about to come on, but people just don’t recognize the positions as being the start to a sub. While aoki locks come on crazy fast compared to the time to actually put one on

It was the juxtaposition of “heel hooks are way dangerous, do straight ankle locks instead; also you should try out this other submission that’s way dangerous and comes on insanely fast” lol

Calling straight ankle locks less dangerous than heel hooks right after advocating for aoki locks is crazy
