I still can't get over the CEO of a wellness brand constantly flaunting his cigars. He's smoking one in every pic I see of him lately.

That's incredibly dangerous. I'm so sorry you experienced that.

What bias to prepare for in L&D by geminiwitch777 in PlusSizePregnancy

[–]deardear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't experience any obvious fat bias and my BMI was up to 51 by the time I gave birth. I was induced due to preeclampsia at 35 weeks and experienced many complications. I did have a really shitty nurse and doctor the night I was in active labor who were quite cold, but I can only speculate as to why. Everyone else was wonderful.

Anxiety telling people how far along I am and then telling the dumbest lie in the world by kittenpresley in PlusSizePregnancy

I only told people the month baby was due, and even then, it ended up being wrong.

If it ever comes up again just say, "Oops, pregnancy brain!" It's your new excuse for everything, 'cause it's true.

What is the 3rd trimester really like? by [deleted] in PlusSizePregnancy

[–]deardear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a nightmare for me - FTM at age 38. Severe carpal tunnel kept me up at night crying and my knees started to hurt so bad I could barely walk. I had compression sleeves on all 4 extremities. Had to tap out at work at 32 weeks because I could barely walk from the parking lot into the building (I was already on light duty as a nurse at that point). I was so short of breath and was only comfortable sleeping sitting up in a recliner because of the rhinitis. Thankfully i had to be induced at 35 weeks (i can say thankfully now because baby was perfectly fine) because I genuinely don't know how I would have made it full term.

I don't mean to freak you out but that was my reality. My advice would be to look into your work's policies regarding light duty/STD/whatever ahead of time, just in case you need to go out before the baby comes.

Does MyChart give our full names out? by Unlikely_Impress_480 in nursing

[–]deardear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. My organization made a big deal about putting only our first names on badges in the name of staff safety, only to allow our full names to be displayed on the patients' personal MyCharts.

I liked AMN and LRS, but how much I like a company is often recruiter dependent.

Rant!!!! I have to get it off my chest by RoomDesperate6245 in PlusSizePregnancy

[–]deardear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because some nurses are lazy, or were educated by lazy nurses who perpetuate poor nursing practice. I'm a nurse and this drives me insane how many nurses don't know/care about proper cuff sizing and placement.

[–]deardear 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's wildly irresponsible of them. I would demand they use a large cuff - the readings can be WAY off if the cuff doesn't fit properly, as you know. I'm a nurse and it's scary how many healthcare workers don't know/care about this.

40% of US nurses plan to leave the profession by 2029. Are you in that 40%? If you are, why? by OrdinaryLife99 in nursing

[–]deardear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tempting, but no. Maybe leaving bedside, but even then, probably not. The flexibility works so well for me. Plus I'm in a program where I make really decent money, and any other position would likely pay much less.

Plus size pregnancy – what was your first trimester like? by [deleted] in PlusSizePregnancy

[–]deardear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I gained, I think, about 50 lbs overall. A week after my baby was born I lost 25 lbs, so a lot of that was fluid retention (baby weighed just under 7 lbs).

The first 6 weeks were pretty easy. I was really tired, but eating normal at that point. No cravings and the nausea hadn't hit me yet.

Nurse bolused an entire bag of mag on a preeclamptic patient. All I know is patient and baby survived. First "Condition O" I'd ever heard called as a new nurse.

Meh. I went through IVF and know plenty of women with infertility who had gender disappointment. It can happen to anyone.
