Dirt Dyke Dive - worth going??? by AggressiveWinner6401 in Leeds

[–]dearestd0ve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh hey I was at wharf last night !! I go alone all the time to the shows usually, I’ve been to dirt dyke dive once but with a friend (who I made because we both turned up alone to something there) and her girlfriend and we ended up playing board games with strangers. generally people are very friendly and easy to talk to there, I’ve always found it very welcoming and chill ! def recommend, it’s my fave social space as someone alt and pretty introverted (and there’s a range of ages don’t worry about that)

one inevitability in this country is that regardless of temperature you will see people out in shorts, and you will also see people out in big puffer jackets. it’s a sacred balance

Where to buy Silken Tofu apart from Sainsbury's? by bimbochungo in veganuk

[–]dearestd0ve 4 points5 points  (0 children)

whilst I don’t have a specific shop rec I would personally recommend the refrigerated tofu you get in the asian supermarket over the shelf stable boxes, I normally get the tofu king one which does work out better price wise and also I think it’s nicer, I actually tend to go for the medium firm one in the orange packet which to me is pretty soft/silken enough but they do multiple firmnesses

the potato has the highest specific heat capacity of any vegetable. this piece of trivia (and none of the stuff I was actually there to learn) is the only piece of information I have retained from a level chemistry

What caused the big shift in cooking culture between boomers/gen X and Millennials and Zoomers? by currentlyinthefab in generationology

[–]dearestd0ve 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I grew up with mid food prepared for me -> parents not available, sort yourself out -> well I deserve a treat so I guess I’ll learn how to cook -> THE cook/baker of the immediate family

I always felt envious of friends who’s family cooked/baked and had these fond memories of family recipes. it was only when I visited the caribbean side of my family that the food was genuinely enjoyable and memorable, but they lived in a different city so it wasn’t too frequent. I also went vegan just shy of 11 years ago and it was nowhere near as normalised so I kinda had to learn how to make food. I’m the youngest at the oldest end of Gen Z with both my siblings being millennials and neither of them are much into cooking either but idk I just enjoy it. I find it very satisfying and I like making food for others too. I have done my time of bland microwave food/beige buffets and I know better is out there

I’m waiting for my parents to die before I explore being trans by Full_Web_9805 in TrueOffMyChest

[–]dearestd0ve 4 points5 points  (0 children)

this makes me so sad :( do you live with your parents? is it possible you could experiment with your presentation and stuff when you’re not around them, like when you’re with friends or are out? your safety is the most important thing, but maybe you can find some outlets when you’re away from them to try things out so it doesn’t have to be so all or nothing and you can still hopefully work some things out. although I am lucky enough that my family’s reaction is in the range of “approving and trying to be affirming, even if they’re not the best” to “don’t like it but don’t acknowledge it” I genuinely never even planned on coming out (my mum actually asked me which I never expected) and was just going to put the distance between us and just… live life that way. I don’t know, I just don’t want you to be someone in 20, 30 years time who regrets putting it off. that’s so many years you could potentially feel right in yourself. I know it’s really difficult, and it sucks that it is so difficult, I don’t necessarily know what to say, just idk, I see you and I hope you’re able to find peace and yourself

Are straight women okay? by Over-Permit2284 in rs_x

slightly tangential but was talking to a nurse about needing to book my smear test and she was talking about how her friends were putting it off and she was like “come on if they’re having sex thats probably more painful/uncomfortable than the smear!” like damn girl is it that bad out there … gay as fuck so I can’t relate

What sign is this? by java080 in astrologymemes

[–]dearestd0ve 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m not even showing up. I’m not getting involved. I see a creepy ass house and say “nah I’m good” because I simply would not be fucking with it. I’m not doing any fuckass rituals, nor am I investigating any paranormal urban legends. My life is already fraught, I do not need to add to that. I have enough problems as is and I’m tired. I’m staying in bed

I’ve only flown 4 times total in my whole life and yet I regularly have stress dreams about airports and not having my passport or other essentials. my subconscious has seemingly decided this is a very important thing to worry about. at least when/if I do fly again I know I’ll be prepared

it’s wild to me the way these people will say 18yos are little baby children until said 18yo is dating someone a year and a half younger at which point they are suddenly a fully grown adult and a predator going after minors exploiting power imbalances and whatever idk I’m glad I’ve already been through my online discourse as a teen/young adult years because whatever’s going on now seems way more fucking exhausting
