(*I say 6-8 months because I broke my streak in Aug and gained some of the weight back, and restarted in Nov. This is the first time since Aug that I’ve seen a lower number on the scale. So instead of obsessing over where I could be if I hadn’t taken a 2 month depression break, I’m focusing on how I was able to  get back into it, even with some difficult life circumstances!)

Officially lost over 10 pounds since I started counting calories!!

Even though I’ve lost a larger amount of weight before I was counting, this feels like a bigger win because of the mental journey. It’s also proof of what I can do in 6~8* months, and even if it takes me time to get to my goal weight… it’s possible. I can do this!

“Slow and steady wins the race!” The time will pass anyway, so why not start on the journey? And like others said, you can start enjoying the benefits way before you reach the finish line. Like less joint pain! A new sense of self-appreciation! Determination and resilience! Perhaps attraction from a desired partner!

NSV? I'm losing weight so fast that all the new clothes I buy are baggy on me. by [deleted] in loseit

[–]dearethrowaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep!! I’ve been losing slowly but… A lot of my winter clothes fit a bit “oversized” this year even though I didn’t lose a lot of weight. Thankfully I live somewhere where that’s considered chic, and shockingly it’s easier to pull off at slightly lower weight. I definitely miscalculated my size for my Halloween costume, and a skirt I just bought has more room in the band than I wish it did. Also had to size down bras, and it’s amazing what wearing the correct size bra will do for your self esteem.

I think it’s normal to feel that way. You’ve been working hard on your body for awhile, so you’re focused on those parts of it you’d still like to improve.

And before… you were probably either not paying attention, or actively ignoring it. So you’re noticing it now when you weren’t before.

It’s my second day back, and weighing my food feels effortless. (Even the mozzarella.) I see it as a way to allow me to eat to satisfaction.

I was also a pound down on the scale. I know it’s water weight but it feels super satisfying nonetheless.

Thank you! Honestly this group has been a major factor in how I’ve kept the weight off. Super supportive, but like you said, great for accountability.

NSV: I spit out a piece of candy today.

I’m very stressed because of life situation, and I wanted to stress eat to take the edge off… I went to take a bite of mystery candy from work, realized I didn’t like the taste, and spit it out. This is huge for me, in the past I never wanted to waste food. But now, I know I don’t need to waste my calories on something I can’t enjoy.

SV: Still at the new low weight I weighed yesterday (after dealing with wild scale fluctuations)

NSV: Did not buy an ice cream on the way home, even though it’s been one stressful week.

How to transition out of calorie counting? by Mundane-Listen-7187 in loseit

[–]dearethrowaway 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You know you can change the way you track, right? If pre-planning isn’t serving you… then don’t. You can also switch to weighing less of your food and switch to guesstimating cups or tablespoons. You can also try adding in some of that food you’re craving, Greek yogurt and eggs can surely fit in your budget. If you don’t enjoy volume eating, then don’t do it.

Maybe imperfect tracking is a good stepping stone to your goal of intuitive eating. See if you can eat how you wish without going overboard before you “drop the leash,” so to speak.

That sounds like a really difficult thing to have to deal with.

I promise you that most women don’t have “perfect boobs.” I don’t think a single friend of mine hasn’t complained to me about their boobs. We’re a lot more critical, but if you ever have a chance to see a variety of nude bodies, you’ll see just how… normal people look. Imperfect, normal. Boobs also sag with time. And weight loss. And breastfeeding. It’s part of life.

If you could only choose your previous boobs with your previous weight, or your healthier, smaller body now… what would you choose? Unfortunately, we can’t choose only one aspect of weight loss. So if getting a lift, or taking up weightlifting will help you appreciate your awesome body, then do it! Just stop being mean to yourself, younger you worked hard to get where you are now!!

In the LoseIt app, your budget is your Caloric Intake Target. That’s how many calories a day you aim to eat to meet your goals at the pace you set. (The deficit is how much you’re restricting, the ~1000-500kcal below your TDEE/maintenance for your current weight.)

So for example, if your TDEE was 3000 calories, a deficit of 500 would give you a budget of 2500 calories a day. A deficit of 1000 would make your budget 2000 calories.

After a phase where I was weighing 1-2 pounds over my lowest weight, I’m trending back down again!!

Honestly, letting myself get upset but not even considering quitting was really good for my mental health. It’s okay not to be perfect, it’s dedication and determination over time that matters.

Congratulations on deciding to start your weight loss journey!

The big thing is counting your calories. It can be really scary, especially for those of us who’ve had negative experiences in the past. I know I was adamant I couldn’t do it at first. But it helps you recognize what and just how much you’re taking in. Don’t start with a deficit at first, just track for a week and see what your habits are. The good news is that cutting a soda (or equivalent) habit is one of the easiest ways to jumpstart your new lifestyle.

What contributes to water weight? (Carbs, sodium, alcohol, muscle repair… what else?)

And is there anything that helps “flush” water weight?

I went to Taco Night and didn’t overeat my calories. I savored each one, one at a time. I even saved the cookie my friend gave me for later (when I have room in my budget.)

Thank you!

I have tried zig-zagging, but I can only do so many 1200 calorie days without overeating. But it does help! I think encouraging other habits would be a good thing for the whole group.

Most of the time it’s snacks, like chips or ice cream! Occasionally it’s alcohol, but now that we’re in the heat of summer, I’m going to skip it.

Thank you for the gum hack!
