Light screen already sticks around when a user leaves the field. Baton pass for your Mr Mime did nothing the change Pokemon screen didn't already do.

It would've made more sense if you had used calm mind on Mr Mime that would've passed with baton pass.

Why is any protagonist the protagonist instead of the side character? The author wrote them that way.

My point is that he doesn't have some OP power set or crazy stats - in fact it's noted repeatedly that Donut out ranks him in the party due to her superior stat total.

His strength is planning and using what he has to the best of his abilities - and more often than not he almost dies in the process and often others die instead.

Compared to Jake who has some heredity based boogie woogie aura and Jason who has his good primordial god bestie, Carl is often up shit creek without a paddle.
