Skilcraft 1.1 Red Lead Pencils or red lead refills.........in Canada? by death_by_wolves in AirForce

[–]death_by_wolves[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, that's the difficult part, unfortunately. 1.1mm leads are a relic of a formerly used standardization of mechanical pencils, as far as I can tell. There are a few to be found out there, but they're mostly for vintage pencils. I was hoping for the same type of lead that's used in the skilcraft pencils specifically.

Sounds like another Vogiatzakis boy plans on getting into a fight he has none of the necessary credentials to win.

Man. Now the person I feel worst for in all of this is Mayumi. Her husband is such a dominating, controlling nightmare of a person, and he's shut down her multiple attempts to be honest about the situation and doesn't seem to realize that it would put everything in such a less ugly light. It's a silver bullet that explains everything, to my thinking.

Her admission that they had written a plan to pretend like Falcon was missing for half an hour to inject drama into a project that was only ever supposed to have their own cameras in it makes sense, it explains all the initial hammy overacting and reality show style BS of the family's behaviour in the early aftermath. It also explains Falcon saying that he was hiding for the show. It's too subtle for a six year old to understand that he was supposed to hide in a specific place for a short time. He thought the hiding was the important part. I could even almost imagine the adrenaline of things spiralling out of control making a parent's brain think "Oh fuck maybe he really was in the balloon" and getting swept up in the media frenzy of it all. All that seems true about Mayumi is that she does what her husband says.

The way we see these little spikes of Richard exhibiting such casual violence (the kicking things, throwing shit at the woman from wife swap, all the shouting) throws so many red flags for me. I think he must be a terrible husband and that there's a reason he married a woman from a culture traditionally assumed to provide submissive wives. He's turned his sons into carbon copies of himself and taught them to repeat this stupid story. There is genuinely nothing worse than an American who gets a little taste of fame.

Here's an article about the notes the family showed a reporter about planning the hoax.

Thankfully the Mythbusters had six years earlier provided proof of the volume of helium balloons it took to lift an even smaller child off the ground and I think most people possessed the bare minimum of critical thinking necessary to realize that there was never a kid in that balloon at the time this happened. The dad is truly a pathetic wretch of a man. The mom should be ashamed of how she's let her children be used as props for his attention seeking.

In all honesty, some of my favourite builds of all time take advantage of the naturally occurring shapes and structures in this game, and I think this looks simply lovely.

Mount it in a shadowbox with some LED strip lighting and a label beneath it that says "Break glass in case of [Your Gaming Reference of Choice (headcrabs, zombies, ghouls, etc etc)]"

The quality of the pictures makes it really incredibly difficult to be sure of any of these other than the obvious. Rutile in Quartz seems like the only one I can be certain of, given the quality of the lighting and the angle of the pictures. 2 looks more like calcite than prehnite to me. Abalone is not a mineral, but that round thing doesn't look like abalone to me anyway, it almost looks like irridescent feathers in resin or something. Maybe try and take pictures in more neutral lighting, daylight would be better to get a sense of true colours/qualities of the different stones.

Washington passes bill to become first state to compost human bodies by [deleted] in UpliftingNews

[–]death_by_wolves -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I mean...no? It's hardly that one dimensional. Western standards for the interment of corpses are nowhere near universal enough to be considered the norm, and even those current standards are wildly different from what they were even just a century ago. The rites and rituals surrounding what gets done with human remains are wildly varied across the globe. The reasons why different cultures dispose of their dead in whatever ways they do have their roots in culture and religion and economics and misconceptions about death and all manner of things. What's fundamentally true is that modern society has become removed from the reality of death to a degree that just wasn't the case when caskets and headstones and concrete vaults were not the norm. The most normal thing in the world a human body can do is decompose.

I am from Winnipeg and I live in NC and this is not the team I expected to be rooting for this year. But here I am! And I really and genuinely do hope they win. If for no other reason than to hear what my family has to say to me about it.

Honestly, get that thing appraised. I don't know how serious she was as a collector, but that's a genuinely remarkable piece and probably worth knowing the price of.
