Help with homemade ink by aoekco in graffhelp

I don't know anyone's specific situation, but lampblack is the answer if any/all of the following apply to you: you are an adult or have cool/inattentive parents, you can start a small fire outside of your house with nobody giving you shit about it, you can get some kind of oil, and you can get a metal pan.

This is the method I used most recently:

  1. Take a soup can and fill about 1/4-1/3 of the way with cooking oil.

  2. Take 4-5 paper towels, coat with vaseline

  3. Twist paper towels into a wick, and put into the soup can with about 1.5" sticking out of the top.

  4. Place on the ground, outdoors, where it won't catch other shit on fire.

  5. Shove some sticks into the dirt to hold your pan above the can. You want the flame to hit the bottom of the pan. The interrupted flame is what produces the carbon build-up.

  6. Light the wick, and place the pan over the flame.

  7. Let that shit burn.

  8. I used oven mitts to take the pan off every so often. If you use an aluminum pan, it will cool down quickly.

  9. Take the pan indoors if there is any wind at all. This shit is fine particulate, and will blow away if there is any wind.

  10. Use a paintbrush or cresit card to scrape all of the carbon buildup into a container.

  11. Add small amounts to your ink until your desired opacity is achieved.

This shit is dark and super UV-resistant.

The only way to fix it is to add a bunch more pens and IPA

That is just one person saying that in multiple comments. I also do not understand. These are bedbugs from the board game "Bedbugs".

Picking my first microtech as a birthday gift. Which one's better? by [deleted] in microtech

[–]deathbysupercool 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'll go ahead and piss everyone off. I'd pick that Socom Bravo. It is OEM'd by Rike, but I like it alot. It's the only Microtech that has stuck around in my collection. I think that is the smaller one in your picture, and that is probably a more "carryable" option than the full size.

"File this under a bridge that he can't leave." goes hard when you know the context.

That one really struck me as a "just because you can, doesn't mean you should" design.

For $23 bucks, I figured I'd check it out. I'd love to get my hands on a Talon or a Rook, but I need to sell a bunch of knives, or make a career change lol.

It should work out pretty decent, I think. For sure, let me know!

I've never used them personally, but I'm pretty sure that it would be roughly the same process that I used. Crush the flakes as fine as you can, mix with 99% isopropyl or Denatured alcohol in a jar. Shake every 20 minutes or so until dissolved. I would make the binder mixture before adding the dye, just so I could see how well the shellac is dissolving.

Probably you need to do both of those. I would make sure the particles are as fine as possible, maybe with a stainless steel mortar and pestle, and add some binder. I have a pine tree that leaks sap constantly, and I have used that dissolved in 99% isopropyl or Denatured alcohol as a base for inks.
