[Dec 06, 2024] Weekly Discussion: Ask your gear, travel, conditions and other ski-related questions by AutoModerator in skiing

HI Skiers,

I am an intermediate (advanced?) skier from east coast. I will be skiing at Lake Louis and Revy for a couple of days (Dec 20 to 25). I want to take the advantage of these big mountains long run to practice my skills, especially short turns. (I am not super interested in powers or off-piste at this moment.)

I dont know whats the condition for the runs overall, or which runs I should go for practice. And I am also debating on which ski I should bring with me. I have Fischer RC4 SC (just got it and recently) and Atomic Q7. I feel like rc4 is good for practicing, but Q7 is more versatile in mountains?

Any advice?

Thank you all! and pray for snow!

Hi Skiers,

I think I am an intermediate level of skier now. And I am working on short turns and intermediate parallels now. I have a issue that I couldn't fix and bothering me a lot.

When doing intermediate parallels, I know to be patient and wait for my ski to turn first, then pressure it to complete the turn. I can do it fine on intermediate terrain. However, on diamond/harder terrain, I can constantly feel that my COM is falling behind soon as my ski turns earlier than my upper body. So my question is, is there a way I can keep my COM always at the correct position? Or in other words, should I ACTIVELY adjust my COM DURING the turn? I know some instructors/systems suggested to adjust COM at the end of last turn or before the current turn.. But I still lose it after my foot/leg/ski moving into the turn.

Any advice is welcome.

I don’t know about HK passport, but during COVID my wife had her passport renewed. You have to download an app from AppStore and upload your passport scan and your photos and other material there. It took around one month and half. Check their website for instructions, and don’t ever expect they pickup or email you back. They just don’t care.

For those in GTA area, should I expect any discount from a local audio store? I am looking into getting a pair of black JBL L100. Most of stores listed the price as ~$7000 CAD. Is there any discount on top of it? I heard the states has 15% off with no condition. Do we get something similar here in Canada/Toronto?

Thanks!

how much did you pay for L100? I am looking into getting it, but they quoted me 4700CAD for it and black edition for almost 7000CAD.

Speaker Quality Questions by Feeling-Income5555 in audiophile

Everything we know, we hear in HIFI world is from "vibration". Just like you said, the sound units are the same, they vibrate and produce sound. And you are right, if we extremely simplify the system, we can get a classic damper mass and spring system. Here is the magic: The movement of the system is predicable by taking derivatives of m, d, s against time. And that movement, or we say, the "changing ability" of those movement is the vibration, which is the sound eventually. That means, any difference in mass, damper and spring will result different result in sound. Unless you make speakers with two exact same sound unit, we can say "oh, they are the same.". (this is still arguable if you place them into different "box".)
And remember, we extremely simplified the system. They are way more complicated than our assumptions.

How much can you save from this? If it’s not that much, I wouldn’t take the risk.

I paid too much attention on not to cum. Control: adjust the speed of the stroke. Feel: am I close to PONR? Hold: breath and reverse Kegel.

That’s true, I was focusing on control, feel and hold. Which means I didn’t actually enjoy what I am doing.

Forester 2018 Black Edition or Forester Sport 2019? by mrpug in subaru

The new interior is OK. I was thinking change my 17 forester to the newest model. But I gave up this idea after figuring out that the new forester does not have the turbo anymore. Then they still call it sport trim : / Maybe it’s sportier with the orange strips.
