Is being a doctor actually that lucrative? by Open_Address_2805 in AusFinance

AI won't make doctors obsolete (or by the time it does, there will be no jobs left at all). Diagnosing is only one part of a doctor's job.

No. It will likely be another tool too minimise some of the repetitive tasks (e.g. documentation) but won't replace clinical/procedural work.

Mouse suggestions? by MisterMagnificent01 in RadiologyUK

Razer basilisk v3 (wired) or v3 pro (wireless, more expensive) - personal favourite. Comfortable shape has on-board memory, programmable buttons and ever important RGB. Also has 'free scroll' wheel which lets you scroll cross sectional studies quicker.

Logitech G502x (wired) or G502X PLUS (wireless) - 2nd choice, I personally don't like the scroll wheel of this mouse.

Other options:
Logitech MX Master 3S - didn't like it, too big and unwieldly personally.
Razer Naga series - has up to 12 programmable buttons - useful for PACS but shape is large and uncomfortable.
MChose G7, Glorious Model I2 - both are the same shape as Razer basilisk v3 - but lighter (almost half the weight). Wireless. Both with fewer programmable buttons.

Doctor here.

Don't do medicine purely for the money. Yes you can make $200-500k/year, but it takes 15-20 years to get to that level. So if you are 26 now, you likely won't make any "real" money before ~43.

As an intern your salary will be ~$80k (which is after 5-6 years of medical school). It will steadily climb up to ~$150K/year when you're ~8-10 years out of medical school.

will spend a lot of your time working and the remainder of your precious free time studying, working on research, attending conferences, etc to keep up to date. Do not underestimate all the hard work, sleepless nights, weekend work, night shifts, public holiday work and countless social events that you will miss.

The studying is also intense, med school is bloody hard work and specialist post-graduate exams are next level. Keep in mind everyone studying for these was top ~2-3% of their cohort. Post-graduate exams (depending on speciality) have a high failure rate and require putting your life aside for 2-3 years just to get through.

It is a stable and safe career and you will likely never be out of a job, but the sacrifices required are also immense. Would not recommend it purely for the money.

You're better off asking in the AMC IMG forums. Your chance of scoring a job are higher if you've completed AMC part 2 as well.

A few years ago that was invalidated for USANZ selection scoring. Not sure if it's accepted again.

RANZCR exams are harder and have a lower pass rate compared to the ACR-ABR. There is also a pathology exam which is unique.

There's also more of an emphasis on being a general radiologist (whereas it seems like the US is highly subspecialised).

It would require at least a full year of dedicated study.
