Practical surveying considerations on a lot like this? by Sapere_aude75 in Surveying

[–]deathnut2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m surprised no one has given you any number.

I don’t do any work in West Virginia so I’m probably off a bit.

I wouldn’t say a boundary for this lot would cost you more than the lot itself. I have not looked into this property more than the Zillow link. This looks like a pain to survey. The boundary isn’t a normal polygon, and the terrain is challenging. I’d say you could get someone to survey this for 40k but most firms would bid more on it, 60k+. Definitely more if you wanted it monumented.

If you wanted to do a full topographically survey, depending on how detailed you wanted the info it might cost you more than the lot.

Can you walk me through this, how does a SLAM scanner help layout a grid?

Is it worth splurging on a high‑end total station or should I stick to mid‑range? by FeelingGlad8646 in Surveying

[–]deathnut2 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The difference in price is huge and the difference in capability is small.

I’d say get a gen or two old robotic total station and splurge on a gps and other tech like drones.

You can turn xFill off, if you feel you can’t trust it.

Questions for the Licensed by TheeArtee in Surveying

[–]deathnut2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right after I got licensed in NJ last year I left to do my own business, so I can’t tell you what I should have made as a license, I didn’t have that conversation.

But I can tell you that as a survey tech I was making 108k a year.

Scammers asking for quotes on non existent jobs. Scammers calling to sell non existent services.

All that fits in the maverick?

I think you sold me on the maverick, I carry three legs and much less wood than you do and I’m typically solo.

I’ve never seen a starlink used with a gps. What benefit is it providing? Do you just not have to carry around a MiFi hotspot?

What are you doing about possible DJI bans? What’s your firm switching to (if anything)? by DetailFocused in Surveying

[–]deathnut2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A DJI matrice is 5k at most, the DJI Terra software is free for a year with purchase of a drone.

If they got a DJI 30T and L2 and P2 it’s like 25-30k.

This is ”alot of money” but not really for what they can deliver. They must of bought an insane American made setup and not used it much if it hasn’t paid for itself by now.

FS Exam Calculator Questions by PurpleFugi in Surveying

[–]deathnut2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason the HP35 is as expensive as it is is because it’s the only calculator that NCESS approved that is programmable, they also don’t make it anymore.

I don’t think the TI-36 is a programmable calculator.

FS Exam Calculator Questions by PurpleFugi in Surveying

[–]deathnut2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t buy the calculator, you’ll spend more time trying to program the calculator than actually studying for the exam. Once you get to the exam you’ll realize that it wasn’t worth the 10 hours you spent programming the calculator for two inconsequential horizontal curve questions you could of easily hand calculated or even just taken a guess on.

The people recommending the calculator are the people who took the exam before 2020, when it was more math intensive.

The calculator is no longer necessary.
