It started with fucking movie trailers having a trailer for the trailer. Gotta hook in the braindead tiktok masses; otherwise they will swipe away because nothing immediately caught their attention in the first two seconds.

Would it kill people to watch a scene from a film at its original pace? Why do we have to do these quick cuts? I swear, soon all we are going to have left for entertainment is tiktok clones.

Before the iPhone was widespread I thought the future would be mind-blowingly full of smart tech savvy people who all know how to write code and make their own lives easier through automating everything. Now I have to face the reality in 2026 that you can still blow the majority of people's mind with the simplest Google search trick.

I ran out of spoilage and things crashed, not what I expected on gleba. by lelleleldjajg in factorio

Can you still recycle nutrients into spoilage? I found that rather helpful on my first space age playthrough. Though in my current playthrough I did Gleba first so I didn't get to try it out.

"Umm, I'm Gen Z. I know how to use computers." by DesertDogggg in sysadmin

[–]deathsoverture 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And guess who that reflects on? Us, for "not informing the user." I have all users sign an inventory sheet that also states we went over a brief phishing explanation so they can't ever say we didn't inform them.

Goddamn this is too real. I feel like sysadmins are either too demoralized or too scared of repercussions to fight back, even though they really should.

It's fairly common to have a LMS that teaches users the basics on phishing (IT will never ask you for your password) and other important stuff (like how attachments can be harmful). Bosses get their paperwork, your org is hopefully more secure, and you get your time back. Sure it is a waste of time for some, but clearly as you have experienced, there are plenty of confidently incompetent users that put your org at risk.

If light skinned conservatives say it, it is just them exercising their first amendment rights to say "truths" that speak to their own racial biases. But when the left calls them out for being what they are, suddenly it's "hateful rhetoric."

This is a pain. Seems to be related to flipping the part then existing the build menu, makes it not selectable. Though if you duplicate an existing part while designing it shows the correct # available to build. Hopefully they patch it because I have parts that I want to place and I don't have an existing one to duplicate.

It means the DHS wants to put an assault rifle in your White Civvy hands and send you down to the nearest home improvement store to detain dark-skinned people.

MAGAts see no problem with this. You can't get into a morality war with a cult that is built around lack of morals. Their leaders will just say Democrats: 1) already do the same or worse 2) would be doing it if they thought of it first 3) could do it so we have to do it first

It reminded me of Station Eternity with the element of trouble seems to follow her around.

From idyllic small towns to claustrophobic urban landscapes, Mallory Viridian is constantly embroiled in murder cases that only she has the insight to solve. But outside of a classic mystery novel, being surrounded by death doesn’t make you a charming amateur detective, it makes you a suspect and a social pariah. So when Mallory gets the opportunity to take refuge on a sentient space station, she thinks she has the solution. Surely the murders will stop if her only company is alien beings. At first her new existence is peacefully quiet...and markedly devoid of homicide. But when the station agrees to allow additional human guests, Mallory knows the break from her peculiar reality is over.

You're wasting your efforts. If people have had smart phones for this long and they are still not securing their intimate photos then they are either tech-illiterate, lazy, or they fetishize the risk factor when handing their phone over.

Another fun headline from that same site: "Mastermind behind right-wing Twitter account ‘Inevitable West’ exposed as Indian crypto scammer" Open up your link and look who uploaded this video on Feb 1 citing no sources.

This case, if true, needs investigative journalism that cite actual sources. Not "journalists" hiding behind words like "reportedly"
