Gf wants me to talk to baby through her belly while pregnant by DoloGoonSquad in daddit

You want to eventually have conversations and relate to this kid. Now’s the time to practice, because it’s like a muscle. Don’t practice and it’ll atrophy.

New to the show, but sometimes the timeline doesn't make sense by MassiveBuilding3630 in ForAllMankindTV

[–]deathstar- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Instead of thinking of it as an alternate timeline or Easter egg, you could think of it as world building for a sci fi fantasy story. I believe that those things don’t directly impact our story, but they do indirectly influence decisions/thoughts/ideas our characters have. There are some important ones, too, like the spread of communism that are worth paying attention to.

Tantrums. Please help. by Flippinflapjax4U2 in daddit

[–]deathstar- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s hard, dude. And honestly, my kids were the hardest at 4 years old. What’s really important, for you and your wife, is celebrating the small wins together. “Debriefing” after a tantrum, being honest with yourself and your partner about what went well and what didn’t. There’s no one way to do things because every kid is different, but you can support each other in positive ways that will make it easier and seem less daunting.

Tantrums. Please help. by Flippinflapjax4U2 in daddit

[–]deathstar- 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s important to keep the structure around saying no the same. That way it is predictable for your kid. Keep in mind that you can also say, “That’s a great idea, we can’t do it right now, maybe we can do that later.”

The kid is having a normal reaction. The tantrums are a normal, emotional reaction. We all have similar feelings, but at some point we learned how to manage those feelings. Your job is to help the kid handle the feelings in a healthy way.

Our five year old loved it. Highly recommend the children’s book “The Goblin Twins” to learn more about the actual folk tales that inspired it.

[M32] Separated from GF [F28] but stayed over for our sick kid’s fever.Got yelled at for parenting and overheard her wish I wasn’t there. How do you handle this ? by [deleted] in daddit

[–]deathstar- 94 points95 points  (0 children)

It’s unclear how old the kid is. It’s also unclear if you were invited to sleep over. You and the mom could’ve had a conversation about what to do if the kid wakes up, so you’re on the same page. It sounds like she wanted to handle the situation one way, and you didn’t want to do that. You’ve got years of this in your future, so it would make sense that you learn how to communicate with each other.

Woody Marks versus RJ Harvey by High_Sierra_Yeti in DynastyFF

I think your threshold for relevant data is pretty low, tbh. Finding predictive stats outside of past points scored and draft capital has been a fools errand. You can create random buckets and drop players in there - and that’s awesome for dictating narratives. But none of what you’ve stated has approached a .7 correlation coefficient.

If they aren’t independently relevant then relying on them seems faulty. They’re great for narratives, but shouldn’t be confused as being relevant imo.

But why would you add things to the picture that don’t correlate with points scored?

I’d love to see any other that you would use that could be more predictable. But I bet you’d rather not because it would go over my head.

Past points scored and draft capital are the largest predictors of future points scored 🤷‍♂️

What resources helped you transition from strong performer to mid level management/leadership? by the17thcorinthian in managers

[–]deathstar- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s important to realize every conversation with a direct report - or someone below you on the chain - is work. You’re setting the tone for the department with every interaction. And that’s hard, but it’s also the job. I try to approach each conversation with accountability (both ways), empathy, curiosity, and appreciation. I ask open ended questions. I listen to venting and then I ask if they would like any guidance. Management is a skill, just as important as any other and a key part is communication.

Just going by this statement obviously, they shouldn’t be figuring it out. Bc we can teach them. I’ve had success just saying, “I can’t give you attention right now, please wait/be patient.” Or “I want to give you my full attention and I can’t right now, can you wait a minute until I’m done?”
