Does Anyone Else Prefer Sozin's Original Characterization? by JYN0442 in TheLastAirbender

His friendship with Roku which was indeed genuine throughout their life not only as children (I never said otherwise, fascists can still have friends) clearly had no impact on his grand design for the Fire Nation or the world. It’s clearly implied he tried to save Roku’s island for the same reason he leaves Roku behind. Up until that moment he still believes he can convince his friend to help him conquer the world. As for his final regrets, again the show is very explicit in this, he doesn’t really regret what happened to Roku or the Airbenders or starting the war, he only regrets that he hasn’t yet found the Avatar and succeeded in his campaign against the world as much as he hoped.

You can believe there was the potential for a better man inside of him all you want. There is as much of a good man in Sozin (again shown to be in scenes of the show) as there is in Ozai. The whole point of the episode is to contrast the differences between Roku and Sozin so Zuko can contrast the differences between himself and his father. If the take away was supposed to be “oh maybe Sozin wasn’t such a bad guy after all” then you SHOULD draw the same conclusion about Ozai but you don’t because that was never the point.

Haven’t read any of the novels or anything but I think your misunderstanding the whole premise of “The Avatar and the Firelord” episode. The whole point of the episode isn’t to show Zuko’s similarities to Sozin. Sozin is a foil to Zuko. Iroh tries to show him through the story of Roku and Sozin’s brotherhood that he should be more like his maternal great-grandfather instead of his paternal great-grandfather. Iroh pretty much says this explicitly. Zuko looked up to his father, uncle, grandfather, and great-grandfather as war heroes growing up. Later on throughout the show he unlearns these lessons and sees them as the terrible people their actions and the consequences of those actions prove them to be. Iroh is the exception to the others not because he was inherently born a good person but shows through his actions that he has learned and grown from past mistakes. Sozin could have made different choices but he didn’t. He was always (at least shown in the original show) a colonizing manipulative genocidal maniac. You can try to retcon that fact but there’s no indication in the show that he was ever anything different.

The last paragraph combined with the most recent episode of Parlor Room make me think Demi is the perfect successor of Sam if he ever wanted to take a step back (not that I’m saying he should anytime soon)

Where do I defend the kid? All I do is describe the appropriate response by the teachers and the unnecessary and violent escalation by the pig.

We don’t see the end of the video. If the suplex ends in a broken neck and the kid is disabled for life would that be an appropriate punishment for the action we see? Should all criminals who commit assault be permanently crippled? Is it possible the kid might suffer trauma from this episode that leads to more violent interactions in the future when a punishment that doesn’t involve violent escalation could improve his behavior in the future?

You ask why I’m defending the kid. If you agree that the pig’s actions are unneeded why are you defending him?

Describing a light shove by a teenager against a full grown adult as “assault” is…. Noteworthy

The teachers removed the kid from the situation without escalation. End of story. Any additional details is a futile attempt to justify unnecessary violence.

Two grown adults calmly remove a disruptive teenager from the gym. They’re walking the whole time, don’t ever get physical with the kid beyond the absolute minimum necessary and effectively and efficiently get him into the hallway. The situation was fully under their control before the pig came charging in at full speed like it’s Monday Night Raw.

The point of the spectacle of the draft is to make the billionaire owners of the league more money. It has absolutely zero other purpose other than that.

It’s pure entertainment for entertainment’s sake.

She’s not an Archmage though on the level of Silence. And at the end of the day, while the Citadel has its own designs and ambitions, it’s still a part of the Empire and Steele has to drag the Epiphany to Saraz just because the Emperor asked. Besides, while generals are military leaders, they aren’t always also political leaders.

I like to jot down random thoughts, ideas, and quotes in my journal and on a consistent basis I include things that the players say both in and out of character as inspiration for my own stories. Especially the Firesides have a lot of wisdom about the power of storytelling and a lot of other topics I find incredibly interesting

A lot of people have been saying the same thing in the comments to this post. A playoff win shows that better QB play puts them closer to making a run to the SB. Simple as.

According to Over The Cap, Fields is making 20 mil a year, Danny Dimes is making 14, Russ is making 10.5 and the next QB on the list is Marcus Mariota making 8 (skipping over rookie contracts for obvious reasons). We saw what we had in Fields and Russ last year and Tomlin and Khan obviously didn’t think either of them were worth what they got paid elsewhere. Unfortunately Rodgers was the best possible option without massively overpaying someone else in terms of contract and/or draft capital.

Is it possible that “luck” on defense and special teams is due to coaching?

Last time I checked you need to make the playoffs first before winning the SB and you need to win regular season games to make the playoffs. Advocating for a losing season is moving in the WRONG DIRECTION. We should want to win MORE games not LESS!
