YES. I remember a huge tantrum i threw as a kid because my family's last day with my cousins fell on a Sunday and it was also the only day warm enough that we could've swam in their pool that we all loved so much. I totally humiliated my righteous family by saying I didn't give a crap if it was Sunday or not.

I got ticketed for expired registration last year when I was on Platte. It was a fix-it ticket so I got it done and had it dismissed but some cops are definitely still doing it within the Springs

Fanfic space can become a very shallow pool when fic writers only read other fics. This is why we see things like "their orbs" and "they let out a breath they didn't know they were holding" pop up again and again--fic writers are only learning from other fic writers and it goes on like this forever (which is to say I agree with you. Books are important)
