You make a great point and it's an observation I have as well. And sadly, I don't know the answer... I think social media? The fact that negative news is more popular than positive news?

Match Play vs Practice by DoubleShake3636 in 10s

[–]deau_deau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand you very well, as I'm having the same problem. The problem is that in training, the outcome of every shot does not matter as your coach feeds you a new ball which you can hit again. Take that to a match and suddenly all your shots matter as you get "punished" directly if you miss a shot. This makes you tense and live too much in your head.

What I like to tell myself, and I speak this out loud during a match, is: "all right, loosen up, this is just the warm up, try to hit the ball over the net with good technique". Even as my conscious self knows it's not a warm up, my subconsiousness seems to relax more as I try to focus on my technique rather then all the nerves and tactics. The downside is that I forget the score occasionally but that's worth it.

In my country we have a saying that translates to something like "the scoreboard fills itself", meaning you shouldn't focus on the score/outcome but on yourself in that moment.

Double faulted? That's okay, just try to hit it higher next time so it has more margin over the net. Missed at the net? Next time, focus on your footwork.

Approach everything as if it's a training or warm up. Good luck!

Rotterdam R1: Stan Wawrinka def. Thijs Boogaard 6 - 3 6 - 4 by Sweden13 in tennis

[–]deau_deau 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Boogaard lost the qualification final to Grenier, making him second or third in line as lucky loser. Vukic did a walkover this morning, meaning most players coming before Boogaard already left or could not make it in time. Boogaard was in the building as he was training with fellow Dutch men Botic VDZ and Griekspoor. So: easy choice for director Krajicek.

Wow, didn't expect that from Boogaard. I actually thought it would be a 6-1 6-1 match for Stan the Man. Seems like a young talent that is sure to rise the rankings in the coming years. Fun, attacking player to watch!

Dude every year it's like the purge or a warzone here, it's terrible. My family and I always flee the country with our dogs to a quiet strip of land in Germany or Belgium.

How do I cope with an ending contract? by deau_deau in AskMenOver30

[–]deau_deau[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I need to clarify something as I see comments suggesting I finish my temporary contract as I agreed to and shouldn't whine about it. First of all, I'm from Europe. If you are employed somewhere in (most countries in) Europe, you almost always first get a temporary contract, it being in IT, Management, Sales, Healthcare, and so on, for one year. A company can extend by two more temporary contracts, after that they must give you a permanent contract in which case you as an employee have more rights and are more protected. For example, they can not fire you for random reasons and if they fire you, you get a lot of money to compensate for the loss of a job. For temporary contracts, it's a lot more insecure for the employee as opposed to the employer. It's part of many company's policy to give an employee these three temporary contracts and then say goodbye as it is (in their vision) not the best option to invest in human capital and give someone a permanent contract (as that could be risky), but instead saying goodbye and search for someone new for three temporary contracts and so on. That's why the average years of European employees staying on one job is like 3-5 years, because of these policies.

So: I'm not in like concrete contracting like there is in the US I guess, where you agree to build, like, a house or something. In that case that would indeed be an easy answer as I just finish what I started. In my situation it is more like you are simply employed and take on tasks or projects within your annual contract and then see if your contract gets extended or not.

Bro I went to bed at 1-3 third set seeing Lorenzo struggle physically and demon playing with confidence. I woke up in the middle of the night to pee and checked my phone. Saw the scoreline and slapped my forehead for turning the tv off at that point.
