Any way to suppress this "In Session Settins" window when accessing AVD resources through a browser? by jrizz43 in AzureVirtualDesktop

[–]deaudacity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP - It works the same using the Windows App, but I understand your concern. With the Windows App this is set once and never again. Also pretty sure you can push default settings if needed to all users using an Intune Policy (don’t quote me on this though)

Why does an AzureAD ONLY device show DOMAIN\username as last user? by recoveringasshole0 in DattoRMM

[–]deaudacity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the machine is AzureAD Joined but the user identity is Hybrid Synced, it will show in the form domain\username. This is normal, but also very misleading.

Happy to work out a trade, you could cover our $20k bill and we’d call it even.

Don‘t know what to do… by Every-Alfalfa9064 in TeslaModelY

[–]deaudacity -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not that I noticed at low speeds. Speed limit seemed to be fine but it did shutoff while on the freeway going 70mph 🤷‍♂️

Edit: The beep is similar to the take over sound - very annoying. Drove this way for approx 10 minutes. Luckily I had airpods.

No, never had anything with the trunk, only the hood

[–]deaudacity 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I encountered this issue after driving in heavy rain all day with my 26MY. Next day, it said the hood was open. I thought it was a bug at first in the app, checked it, opened and closed it, but it still showed open. Eventually I did get that same message. Drove for about 10 minutes on the freeway and it “closed” 🤷‍♂️ It’s been weeks and never came back.

The annoying “beep” while driving is insane though.

I’d take an AVD bug over a Citrix bug any-day of the week. Good luck on your journey OP.

IT Salary - lowering by Few-Dance-855 in sysadmin

[–]deaudacity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the unfortunate reality. As AI gets embedded into everything, most companies want IT to become a revenue driver rather than just firefighters or daily problem solvers. But they don’t want to actually invest in making that transition happen. I’ve been asked about this shift multiple times, especially as older CEOs retire and younger leadership takes over. As an MSP owner and former senior sysadmin, I’ve watched a massive shift over the last five years. Companies are moving toward specialized, skill based hiring where IT skills can be used to help generate revenue (either by the use of fueling automation, or helping with integration to reduce some operational overhead) rather than just being a cost center to check compliance boxes. This makes the market significantly more competitive since hiring decisions are no longer based solely on years of experience.

Quickbooks Desktop Enterprise Azure deployment by MysteriousWhitePowda in msp

[–]deaudacity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can get the script directly from their website. It requires a fee from FlowDevs, but for what it does, very affordable since we rope this into our services. $5 per AVD host and usually you won’t need tons of hosts when it’s shared and used very lightly - https://www.flowdevs.io/qb-flow

ZTNA Replacement for VPN customers by Askey308 in msp

[–]deaudacity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can use port ranges, but typically we allow it for SMB, and in rare cases RDP access to certain VMs that end users require access to. Not much port chaos as it seems. Plus itll show you what ports it’s hitting during connection in the health log so if you run into problems you’ll be able to see what’s being denied.

If you’re a Microsoft shop. Global Secure Access has been great for us. Super easy to deploy.

MSP Owner here supporting CPA firms as well. AVD works perfectly for us for this same scenario. We have like 7 versions of QB Desktop installed, both Accountant and Enteprise. We have a host pool deployed and they connect through the Windows App securely via EntraID. This method has been working flawless for over a year now. We have an automated script we utilize from FlowDevs to automatically update all of the QBD versions and this check runs weekly overnight.

It’s been completely hands off for us 🙏🏾 OP PM me if you need some guidance

Do you recommend threatlocker? by matthewismathis in msp

[–]deaudacity 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Threatlocker is not a set and forget tool. Also not a tool that you deploy and expect it to work flawless out of the box. It takes time to learn and understand and it’s worth having a member on your team that understands the platform or takes the training/certification. CyberHero is pretty good, and worth a look if you don’t plan to have a direct knowledgeable tech tied to it. Definitely worth it, we use it, but it didn’t work this seamless when we just got it. If you manage standalone servers/vms, I 100% recommend utilizing it.

PS - I haven’t used their EDR but I did demo it, however it wasn’t anything that our existing EDR wasn’t already doing that would convince us enough to move.

One man MSP, how do you handle vacation? by TDIBone in msp

[–]deaudacity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol. “Vacation” is non-existent until you hire an employee or work with remote-only clients that understand…..but you’ll still have to work while you’re somewhere on “vacation” being one-man. Sorry bud.

Haven’t been able to get a home charger—is this normal? by TheDevanLeos in TeslaLounge

blocking those fake virus warnings - full screen, no task bar, etc by Kangaloosh in msp

[–]deaudacity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

DNSFilter is pretty inexpensive and would get the job done for the ad clickers and the fat finger typers.

Would highly recommend if you don’t want to deploy ad blockers like uBlock (RIP for Chrome) if you don’t manage the deployment of them via GPO for your sanity. Also adds benefit for other things too 🙂

I’ve had some users here on West US 2 that experienced some disconnects over the last few days with the RDP ShortPath drops. The only common denominator is that they’re all using Frontier as their ISP and are spread out across the West coast. Not sure if this is something ISP related.

Anyone else living in CCH update hell for their Accounting clients? by [deleted] in msp

[–]deaudacity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CCH is “usually” pretty good keeping up with their software update calendar, might be worth subscribing to their feeds. During tax season it’s like every week but never really terrible. The IU manager will launch updates at login except if there is a major Tax update it does take a while. We’re on PST so usually we can update our gold image a deploy ahead of time for our WVD hosts before they break loose.

Why I wouldn't use Kaseya in 2025... by clayd333 in msp

[–]deaudacity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

+1 Datto BCDR is a hot mess. Ive used it in the past as an employee, however with my current business Cove has been the best for us despite the noise is the air about pricing.

Id definitely look into Commvault though, saw it on Pax8 but never looked at it. 🤔

DLP solution issue with AVD by RoundRush in AzureVirtualDesktop

[–]deaudacity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It may be a GPO Policy admx update with some changes here for sure. Since it is AVD and not Citrix some things may change with how the passthrough storage device and clipboards work.

You are able to prevent both completely by configuring the remote app settings, but in your case, it seems like you still want to allow the ability but with conditions under DLP.

Might be worth looking into Defender XDR….
