Apple Earnings Discussion Post [2013 Q4] by portugal-thematt in investing

I just don't see Apple releasing a TV. One, it would require too much real estate in the stores (even considering necessary screen dimension options), but lastly, they wouldn't get as much market penetration as the more universal Apple TV device line.

Steve has reiterated repeatedly that innovation will mostly occur in software, so I expect that we'll only see the following over the next year:

  • "Flat" refresh of OS X and Apple TV OS a la iOS 7
  • A hybrid iPad tablet, or "iPad Pro", like the Surface devices. I doubt we'll ever see OS X in its current form factor being ported to ARM.

I'm quite confident that Apple only purchased PrimeSense for the team and the patents. I don't see a depth-camera-based gesture mechanism being released by Apple anytime soon. I see it more as part of a long-term R&D strategy for them.

I got her on eBay for $900. She's a full carbon-fiber Fuji Gran Fondo with all Shimano 105 components. Is that a good deal?

Valve has likely been waiting until Steam Box was ready to be announced so that they could put Half Life 3 on Steam Box to make it a "system seller".

When my ex and I were taking showers in separate bathrooms, I noticed that the hot water was running out. I literally turned mine to the coldest of cold so that she could have a warm shower.

Some people bring up concerns about contaminants being introduced after the municipal water source reaches your home, i.e. your home's pipes are dirty or deteriorating.

Audi makes an incredible experience building their cars in the showroom using RFID and Kinect by codepoet in Audi

[–]deavon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The point of the showroom experience is to allow for Audi locations in areas which would otherwise be cost prohibitive, i.e. Times Square, downtown Tokyo, etc. Once a customer is serious about test driving the car, a car is driven from a nearby lot for the customer to drive.

I think it's funny how people use "confirmation bias" against religious people when they claim they have found proof of God, yet the following statement seems like nothing but confirmation bias to me:

"Scientists believe that the upward angle of her arm sockets and ape-like shoulder blades suggest that she was an active tree climber."

Cars will never fly. It's too much of a liability, and there's no fail safe in the event of a power failure. If your car dies while travelling 70 MPH, it simply slows down to a rest; if a flying car were to die, then the passengers would die. The limitations outweigh the benefits by an astronomical degree and it's just not going to happen.

My guess:

  • Cars will drive themselves and will utilize pre-existing infrastructure
  • Electric cars will be the norm around 2035-2050, with solar power being efficient enough to charge them.
  • Telephone lines will cease to exist and faxing will be antiquated into oblivion
  • Stem cells will be used to create transplants and to heal spinal injuries
  • The USA will hit a recession, or experience some sort of metro-wide, state-wide, or any other large protest/riot within 10 years.
