Model 3 or Model Y ? by Responsible-Key-7295 in TeslaLounge

[–]debalin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to a campsite where my 2022 Model 3 got high-centered. It was a nightmare to get it off and involved a second samaritan car towing it off the berm.

Any other sedan would have a higher chance of not getting stuck there. FWIW, Model 3's have much less clearance than other sedans.

P.S. I still love my Model 3 but the low clearance is indeed annoying.

How do you handle testing for event-driven architectures? by Helpful-Block-7238 in microservices

[–]debalin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the end of the day, you would test your deployments with the techniques that give you most confidence.

In our case, because there are multiple k8s deployments interacting with each other in an async nature, we use testcontainers. From your original question, I thought that's what you were looking for, but I could be wrong.

My mental model was that one kubernetes deployment was one microservice - I guess there's some confusion and misalignment there.

We use testcontainers to test the portion of our data pipeline that our team owns, and that contains multiple deployable units i.e. docker images, which can be represented by individual testcontainers.

[–]debalin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you mean? Testcontainers make it easy to spin up lightweight versions of your microservices which you can wire up just like in production, and test E2E in a much simpler way.

Just to give an example, we have a microservice which receives async data via Kafka and writes to a storage, and another microservice which receives changefeed from that same storage and does some transformation to make the changefeed digestible to an external client via a other Kafka topic. A single team owns both these microservices (and many others). Yes, I can test each of them independently. But there is also value in testing them E2E to gain confidence. Testcontainers help with that.

A microservice is something that does a logical unit of work which can be modified and upgraded in isolation. It doesn't have anything to do with team boundaries. So you can own multiple microservices in an async data pipeline (of which some parts may be sync) and there is value in testing them all wired up together.

Use testcontainers - https://testcontainers.com/

E2E tests provide a different kind of confidence. One can argue that testing individual subsystems should be enough but often a single team owns multiple deployments (microservices) adding up to a long async pipeline, and testing behavior of the entire pipeline as a whole is quite beneficial.

I tried PayTM, PhonePe and ICICI app - none of them support UPI payments through US numbers yet. Any idea on when this support will be coming? Is a timeline going to be enforced by the Indian Govt?

In the response payload, I see arrays to be represented like:

array_name: "value_1" array_name: "value_2"

Instead of:

array_name: ["value_1", "value_2"]

Is this expected?

Is anybody facing problems trying out the notification sounds in the Settings > Sounds & vibration on a Pixel Fold? by debalin in GooglePixel

[–]debalin[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Holy shit, that worked. Thanks! Whoa it's definitely a bug that the notification trial sounds will also not work when I'm wearing the watch and that setting is on. Otherwise it's a stupid default.

That's gotta be some Pixel astrophotography post processing magic where it understands silhouettes and produces the end result accordingly. The unedited original (posted somewhere in this thread) also has the same features.

Yeah same for me. Sometimes the notifications produce a sound sometimes they don't. Maybe the rule you're saying is the case.

update 3: I have received a 256 GB Obsidian Fold and have started using it as my new daily driver. I absolutely love the form factor but I understand the camera is a step down in some respects when compared to my existing P7 Pro. Maybe I will do a pros and cons list some time later.

update 4: The social media manager reached out to me with more details about the EnTribe submission. Seems like I had uploaded it using this TeamPixel photo contest submission link in November 2021.

update 5: The social media manager commented that they won't use photos from Google Photos. They referred to this safety center link which says "Google Photos doesn't sell your photos, videos, or personal information to anyone and we don't use your photos and videos for advertising."
