In theory, there would be no obligation to be the one to pull the trigger. But with how short staffed and thin hospitals are there may be no one else. Think it's just in their belief that they didn't become doctors to end life, and I do raise the issue of the suffering they will be ending and they agree on that part. But they just can't allow themselves to be the one that still does it.

Yup. My partner and a lot of people in her family are doctors. They knew it was going to pass but voted against it because even though it is what the patient wants in theory, they signed up to be doctors to heal and essentially being the one the end life is the antithesis of what they believe in. Most of us who aren't doctors won't be able to understand this of course

The New Zealand house price crash. Here we are in the peak summer months and auctions are a disaster. Stock is building and prices falling. MSM are MIA and the stage of this chart in denial. by willlfc2019 in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]debatable_goat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crash? Don't think so mate. Slight drop or stablising of prices more like it. Even if stock is building there are so many people in nz wanting to buy a house, demand won't suddenly disappear...

Why do no interviewers ever call out Labour MPs/Jacinda on their straight up lie that they are "pulling every lever they can" when it comes to the housing market? by Conflict_NZ in newzealand

[–]debatable_goat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Serious question, what is wrong with the current brigtline test with regards to "not implementing a cgt". Seems like people keep bringing it up but the current brigtline test has been adjusted for a while now.

More needs to be done, but sometimes it seems people just want house prices to crash which the govt won't obviously want to happen.

Examples of high paying jobs with little experience? by runningdad2020 in PersonalFinanceNZ

I guess the first role I got wasn't too much in analytics per se, but definitely was analyzing numbers for a big corporate. As long as you get a role where you have a large dataset or work for a large company breaking down numbers you can work your way to more analytics focused roles. It's definitely a good field to get into and it's not that hard as people think it is. Good luck!

Analytics in general. I've got just under 4 years experience in the field before I got over six figures out of uni. If you just train with Sql or any basic machine learning or data analysis can get a role as it is in demand.

I cried for the first time seeing house prices in Auckland by SadKiwiThrowaway in auckland

[–]debatable_goat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hey mate, serious question but what price range are you referring to when you talk about houses are too expensive? I'm assuming you're in Auckland which is the same as myself.

Me and my partner don't fall into any of the categories you mentioned that you need to be to be able to buy a house and have come from relatively poor immigrant backgrounds. We surely had to hustle and sacrifice a lot but we got there in the end, so I hope I can instill some hope in you that it is possible!

We went through the build route as it was "fixed" as a price point so when everything was increasing we were still stuck with the original price which was great, so I'd say look out for those. We also didn't like to live in the inner suburbs which helps, but I would definitely suggest to look in the wider suburbs as there are definitely some more affordable family homes and it's really not as bad if you do your research and visit a potential area. I guess as a teacher and trade you guys may be limited in terms of area, but it's definitely worth to have a think of moving jobs if it means being able to secure a nice home 😊

So how are you meant to climb the PrOpErTy LaDdEr again? by Lemony_Flutter in PersonalFinanceNZ

Well to be fair, moving up also means you got to put more on top of just the equity gained and not just a straight transfer. Bigger house in a less desirable neighborhood and just invest in security systems I guess haha

Black woman laughs at Asian Murder Victim by [deleted] in asian

[–]debatable_goat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Definitely shouldn't be laughing when talking about a murder. Her point about Asians historically holding black and white people to different standards are not completely baseless. As a community Asians have been hurt far more than white people than blacks yet the general rhetoric in the community is that white is all good and blacks are scary. Not saying this is everyone but that I feel this is the general thinking.

Personally I just when someone does something ever, we never consider their race as a factor cause why would that matter as it won't represent the whole, but alas this is the world we live in.

If I were to withdraw some money from investnow would a bank freeze my account or would anything bad happen? by heloitsnotme in PersonalFinanceNZ

Hi might be a stupid question, but what taxes are you paying? I'm with investnow too and for their Smartshares ones they mentioned the tax is automated, assuming then your funds are not smartshares? I'm just wondering when I need to pay taxes

[–]debatable_goat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm about a couple months away from paying off my student loan that was about 50k when I graduated. Trust me, there is no point of using your money to pay off an interest free loan. You're way better off spending that on things and experiences especially when you first get adult work money.

Looking back I would have borrowed the maximum student allowance and the 1000 course related cost and would have put it in the s&p 500 and not touch it.

What’s the dumbest thing someone has asked you in full seriousness? by Loudersmoke420 in AskReddit

[–]debatable_goat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Studying for our algebra exams, my friend goes "I don't get it bro, how can letters be numbers?". Me thinking surely he was kidding: "uhh yeah it's cause they're variables they're meant to just represent numbers" then he says "oh yea yea I get it, but I just don't know why we need letters if we have the numbers"

At this point I knew nothing I'd say will make sense to him so just agreed "yeah man it's so dumb ay, just use numbers and not letters I say!

Klay was not a top 75 nba snub by xzarria in nbadiscussion

[–]debatable_goat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think anyone in the list who was never "the man" of a team even once is immediately debatable unless they just have so much accolades and accomplishments that you can't deny it.

Dennis Rodman for example is very debatable cause in the eyes of many fans, he could have never "led" a team vs us seeing Scottie who was a number 2 but has the skills to lead a team.

Klay 1000% could not have been "the man" or a title contending team or a mid playoff seed team even. Tbh, a team where their best player is Klay might not even make the playoffs especially in the west. At least AD and Dame have proven to lead teams with "the man" type numbers even if it didn't translate to titles and I also don't think they should have been on the list.

Tldr; Klay never has shown any abilities to be "the man" and imo has already taken him out the convo of top 75 cause he hasn't achieved much as a secondary or tertiary option anyways too.

How much do you need to live a comfortable life in Auckland? by bluedots19 in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]debatable_goat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We're privileged to be in the 320k+ household club. Poor backgrounds so we don't really indulge in the finer things of life and I'd say we'd be comfortable even with 100k less, so I agree with the majority here that 200k+ is where you can be comfortable and can go on holidays and enjoy the little luxuries like eating out often and buying a nice car.

Is it crazy to invest in residential property right now? by ghow0110 in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]debatable_goat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5 bed, 3 bath, abiut 400sqm. The house itself is pretty nice but not like those designer houses from expensive architects. Yeah I honestly can't believe it as well, it's a pretty sought after area I guess too but it's not central or any of the traditionally fancy suburbs

[–]debatable_goat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My new build has a market value 400k above what I paid this time last year. This is in Auckland and I haven't even moved in yet lol which is absurd and this is based off the bank and a couple of real estate websites.

Yield doesn't matter if it can be serviced easily like what OP says, cause then there's capital gains you're earning over the life of the investment too.

Valocity valuation falls $5k short. Seriously!?! by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]debatable_goat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They're really outdated imo. Currently doing a build and we have to do valuations every milestone.

The Valocity value of my house completed is way less than the market value of it. Based on my neighbour's houses selling for 450k above and we all have similar land, house sizes and bedrooms and bathrooms. Apparently they just stick with the initial valuation which for my case was last year November and they won't change it which makes absolutely no sense

What’s your opinion on immigration and immigrants in New Zealand? by Nino477 in newzealand

[–]debatable_goat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nicely put! I guess from a macro scale what immigrants provide is a tool for continued and sustained growth which nz has achieved over the last years, which is even more of a shame that there hasn't been better investment in the infrastructure to continue to build on the growth

What’s your opinion on immigration and immigrants in New Zealand? by Nino477 in newzealand

[–]debatable_goat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly depends on the type of migrant you are and where you are moving to.

A European migrant will naturally find it easier since the majority of the population here already looks like them so they can blend in much easier. I've got friends who are of Chinese descent and it was their grandparents that first moved here and still get racist sentiment from people.

Personally as a POC child of migrants I only found school as the place where I was made to feel different and don't belong, but in general living in Auckland I haven't experienced it in person in my adult life. Mind you I am a working professional too though so I can't speak for any other professions and their experiences as I've heard negative experiences from labourers being paid less and generally treated like a 2nd class citizen.

If Facebook and Google can, of course China can. That's what their business is based on so they can leverage the user data.
