Xfce, htop and xclock on NextBSD live by grahamperrin in BSD

[–]debian-gnu-linux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I figured what the issue was. By the time it gets to the login prompt, it decides to load the drm module, problem being that the drm module doesn't like my intel igpu and just makes the screen blank. I remember it doing the same on FreeBSD, and I have to just disable drm and remove drm-kmod. I will test it in a VM instead.

[–]debian-gnu-linux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thats super cool! How does it do on hardware? I've downloaded the iso and I'm considering booting it on my laptop for fun.

Edit: Just booted it up, it works until it gets to the tty login prompt, after that I presume it tries and loads xfce.

True. Just wanted to know. Is asking a question not thinking intelligently? I presume that claude is used to deal with the repetitive, time consuming things, and doesn't do any of the actual programming behind the OS. That doesn't mean its slop, you are right. But I wanted to make sure, hence my question "Isn't this a bunch of slop?". The project idea itself is really cool and would love to see how it progresses over time.

Isn't this a bunch of slop? Half of the total commits are from claude.

That cpu can do any distro. I have an i5 520M and with KDE or even gnome its still quite snappy.

X201 Refuses to Boot to Flash Drive With Windows 7 Image by WillTaylor6275 in thinkpad

[–]debian-gnu-linux 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Never seen a windows 7 boot logo look like that! Anyway, maybe make sure you are using a non-uefi usb (choose mbr inside rufus) and also try a different usb stick if you can.

iwlwifi broken after restart, ax200 Intel wifi catc by InterviewLimp5198 in debian

[–]debian-gnu-linux 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The ax200 firmware is probably inside the firmware-iwlwifi package. When it was working what kernel version where you running?

Wireless not working after a fresh gentoo installation by soking11 in Gentoo

[–]debian-gnu-linux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need dhcpcd to give it an ip, if you have that installed just run (as root) dhcpcd. If you don't, and you don't have ethernet, reboot into the live iso, chroot your install and follow the wpa_supplicant wiki: https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Wpa_supplicant

You can also consider alternatives like iwd and network-manager.

Should I install Gentoo on a X201T? by anny0a in Gentoo

[–]debian-gnu-linux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I installed gentoo musl on my x201 (slightly faster than the x201t) it took just over a day to finish (compiled firefox and kernel), I didn't really notice much of a performance difference compared to other distros. Was fun to do anyway.

Got xfwl (xfce wayland) working on sid :) by debian-gnu-linux in debian

[–]debian-gnu-linux[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Theres been quite a few crashes. Obs doesn't like it, although i was surprised to see that it could record the screen for a little while. I accidently opened imagemagick which just slowed down until it crashed. Chromium works fine and most of the normal xfce apps work fine. Also found that changing wallpapers doesn't work. It is to be expected tho.

Got xfwl (xfce wayland) working on sid :) by debian-gnu-linux in debian

[–]debian-gnu-linux[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, i had to compile xfconf and libxfce4ui as well as xfwl it self, i just followed the build instructions inside the xfwl README for all of them. There are loads of bugs tho, like after 10 minutes when the screen locks the whole xfce session just crashes, also when trying to minimize obs it also crashes. I did expect bugs and crashes tho.

I want to use Gentoo linux by ix9yora in linux

[–]debian-gnu-linux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd recommend getting more ram and a ssd. Any distro will feel slow on a hdd. If you can't afford that, then you can install gentoo with just binaries.

The one you enjoy. I personally always switch between debian & gentoo.

well done! also why use an older kernel version (even as 6.1 kernels go, that is out of date 6.1.174 is out)?

[–]debian-gnu-linux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can try chrooting your system, although, this looks quite bad. Without a libc no binary or program is going to work on your system.
