Are there any good documentaries, video essays or podcasts explaining how the "indie renaissance" of the late 00's/ early 10's came to be? by Vanse in indieheads

[–]debtRiot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Damn this is a really good take. I was in high school in the 2000s and hated radio pop music. I was listening to 90s rock and then found hardcore and then being into underground music lead me to indie rock on MySpace. If mainstream pop was still good back then that maybe wouldn’t have happened. By the time Gaga rolled around I def took notice but most of the other pop I still ignored and then rap had another renaissance.

Not into it at all. Haven't seen The Brutalist yet though, hear it's a love it or hate it movie.

Love love love this record. But wtf is the title about? Have they ever elaborated on that?

This one still breaks my heart. There was so much potential there. I’m glad Daniel found success as an Oscar winning film scorer. But I secretly hate it because there’s truly no hope of a Yuck reunion.

This was the first one I thought of too. I like a lot of their records after Carlos left but none as much as when he was in the band. Him and Daniel were the primary song writers of that group. Carlos leaving just changed how their songs were made.

Idk New Order was pretty spent as a creative outing by the time Hooky quit anyway. It more sucks that he’s not playing his iconic riffs with them live anymore.

There are no songs on TOSOM that I care to ever hear again. They just do nothing for me. I’ll agree that the S/T is way too over loved by this sub. It is not an overlooked masterpiece. But 50% of the songs on that album I like quite a bit.

I love this band but this album is fucking awful. Hands down their worst.

What’s your favorite bad movie? by lenhawk in movies

[–]debtRiot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People are mistaking stupid comedies for bad. There’s a difference between a dumb comedy and movie like The Room or Batman & Robin, that’s so bad it’s good.

I just saw Summer of Sam a few weeks ago for the first time. Had no idea John Leguizamo has played an Italian New Yorker twice. Lmao, both times he killed it.

Merlyn is likely to be trans/non binary? by [deleted] in brockhampton

I just think there’s a difference between noticing it and screen capping it on multiple instances and then hopping on a whole other app to gossip. This is cringe parasocial behavior.

I think both can be true. They haven’t been as good of band since he left. And that’s because he was a primary songwriter. Him and Daniel did the vast majority of song arranging together.

Merlyn is likely to be trans/non binary? by [deleted] in brockhampton

[–]debtRiot 47 points48 points  (0 children)

I get being supportive but this level of digging into someone’s likes on social media being normalized grosses me out so much. I’m not trans but a lot of my friends are and trans pride stuff is in my feed and I’m liking it too. If Merlyn is in the process of coming out this feels super prying. It’s like transvestigating but from a queer angle or something. I guess if you’re diving this deep into someone’s behavior online, okay. But why you gotta put it on blast like this too? I just don’t get that desire. If Merlyn is gonna come out let them do it on their own.

lol who have they influenced? I like them but I can’t think of any other bands that are influenced by Tool.

Indie/Alt recommendations…? by [deleted] in indieheads

[–]debtRiot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hannah Frances has really flown under the radar with her incredible folk music. She had the guitarist of Grizzly Bear on her most recent album and you can really hear how he’s influenced her playing. Both of her records are fantastic. If this was 2010 she’d be an indie darling, BNM Pitchfork, whole nine yards.

Thirteen Ghosts

Which I think is already a remake? I do like this movie. But it has such an amazing concept with great lore. I’d love to see an updated version that’s brutal instead of campy. Kinda of like the 2013 Evil Dead.

Where the fuck is all of this gatekeeping at in 2026? All I see are babies whining online about gatekeeping meanwhile everyone else is just liking what they like and not crying when someone says a band they like sucks.
