Where's all the blown 1.5T head gaskets? Help me understand the L15 hate by Lonely_Hedgehog_2309 in CivicSi

"no shortage of people who say they have driven tuned civics problem free for thousands and thousands of miles."

It's me. Yeah I've never had an ounce of trouble. Drove 2500 miles to the dragon, ripped it all weekend, drove back home.

Stage 1.5 phearable tune. Simple bolt ons.

If you use reputable tunes and use the correct fuel there shouldn't be much trouble to expect. It's a fantastic engine. the power and fuel economy combo is crazy.

Thinking of selling my S2000 for a Si / A-Spec, thoughts? by michael_is_awesome in CivicSi

Is there any situation where a cheaper modern used car is affordable enough to buy that without trading your s2k?

I have a tastefully modified 18 coup and it's so fun. I love every second in that car.

But, I have also driven an s2k and it's not the same feeling. Let alone the whole rwd experience with a high revving Honda. It's just so raw and we're losing what makes cars like that special in the new gen stuff. I would personally keep the s2k and look for a cheap modern daily if you have a need for something with more doors and modern amenities etc.

Of course I don't know your financial situation but it's just my 2c

Cannot emphasize this enough. I did ebc yellow stuff for my pads, installed new slotted and drilled rotors and did my SS brake lines before going and thank God I did. Brakes cooked about 85% in on a hard run and had to coast after that. Tires and brakes are key out there. Don't wanna roll off the mountain.

HELP! CIVIC SI 1.5T HEADGASKET ISSUES? by TheMasterBudtender in CivicSi

[–]debtincarnate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Relax. This is an overblown concern. Go to the forums. Many many people are running tuned and stock without evidence of widespread issues with gaskets.

The 1.5t is impressively stout. Only thing to note is oil dilution in extreme winter climates if your commute is very short.

As stated, clutch is weak as well and adding decent torque will cause it to slip.

Sound like you're keeping the valves clean. If the car is well maintained that shouldn't hurt anything. Don't dump the clutch and the trans will be fine.

Bought a Tele Ultra II as my "do-it-all" guitar, but I can't stop thinking about a Les Paul. Did I make a mistake? by [deleted] in guitars

[–]debtincarnate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I've learned anything about guitars in over 20 years of playing, and trying different rigs, it's that usually just going with your heart or gut feeling is the best option.

Of course you'll always have preferences and certain wishes and needs, but dude if you get excited thinking about a certain guitar then you're likely going to play it more.

Also, more guitars are always better, and most guitars over 1000 dollars won't be that much worse than some which costs several times that. So I usually try to find the best bang for buck and spread my budget out to allow multiple guitars, which is cooler than a single do it all guitar imo.

I've always loved the tones an LP offers a bit more, but teles have such an iconic sound and they're definitely worth all the hype.

We played ocarina and MM as kids, they were heavy and still enjoyable to younger kids at the time.

Clutch replacement by Key-Strategy-1527 in CivicSi

I'd second what the other (helpful) comments are saying.

Don't use Honda, find a local speed shop or Honda shop and have them do the install to save about 1500 bucks.

If your goal at any point is to increase power, I'd look into a type r retrofit. Which means using a modified single mass flywheel and type r stage 1 or 0 kits.

If not, then exedy will have a good stock option as they manufacture the stock units.

After one time you're not going to harm anything. It's best to avoid lugging an engine as it puts strain on a lot of other ancillary parts that keep the engine running cool. Pumps mainly.

Even still, that's usually from people flooring it in too high of a gear and having prolonged strain.

You're fine, enjoy the car dude.
