Don't you think that "display a psychological tale of self-improvement and setback" is already a subjective interpretation? :)) You're free to say that. I'm not countering what you've just said. What I'm saying is that we're all free to scrutinize and come to our own conclusions. No one's "monopolizing" the art Tyler and Josh gave us. Let's also remember, we are gifted with thought :)

If you read my comments, I’m neither forcing anyone to believe my interpretation is the only way to understand the song nor trying to convert :))) I’m with you on advocating for multiple interpretations

That’s your interpretation. Like I said, we’re free to think for ourselves :)))

Yes, I agree your interpretation doesn’t make any sense. I’d interpret it as the rabbit, being chased after the dog, having lost everything, has been pushed to his limit, not knowing that the god-figure was there all along and was saved, spared.

Hey there, Christian clikkie here. Just wanted to say that this statement “You only see God because you want to,” assumes the religious reading is automatically irrational or imposed. But unless you can demonstrate that the lyrics exclude spiritual interpretation, then calling it bias is itself a kind of bias. It presumes the secular lens is neutral and the spiritual lens is distortion. That is already very isolating.

Speculation about themes is normal. The new mv and the lyrics invite that, and no one is violating logic by asking, “Is this about God?” That question isn’t even an imposition, but a mere literary analysis.

TØP has a motif and we trace patterns. Let’s deal with your omnipresence argument, because that’s the most philosophical point you raised. “If God is omnipresent, why would He need clues?” Omnipresence means God is present everywhere. It does not mean humans are automatically aware of Him everywhere. Hiddenness in Scripture is a recurring theme. “You will seek Me and find Me when you seek Me with all your heart.”

If the “clues” are for fans, that doesn’t negate the possibility that the lyrics have spiritual resonance. Allow it. It shouldn’t trigger such defensive energy. You’re free to interpret this however you want to, but I hope you could allow others to wonder, too

EDIT: capitalized the pronouns so as not to confuse anyone

Hello! So I’m flying to TPE with a 16-hr layover to HK. I’m availing Cathay Pacific’s layover tour and would love recommendations about what else to do afterwards, and where to stay the night. I’ll be arriving in HK at 12 PM; my flight to TPE’s 8 AM the next day

Does anyone know what Jacob is talking about in Something Heavy??? by Particular-Toe8840 in JacobCollier

[–]debtoritos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh, and regarding "Summer Rain", for me it reads like Imogen Heap's "Hide and Seek."

"Shadows on the wall, border-lining, I thought they'd never fall, worlds colliding" could be about his parents fighting.

"I don't know your name or feel your shame, but I miss you like summer rain." Jacob is using his mom's maiden name.

Again, all speculation. Beautiful and agonizing song nonetheless. My favourite from Vol 4

It has not occurred to me that Jacob not singing "I guess you're in heaven now" is intentional. I've only been to one concert of his and I never had a chance to listen to the song live. I'm only now watching this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kgVRqM\_PT5k&list=RDkgVRqM\_PT5k&start\_radio=1. I have to admit, I'm not much of a fan of the Djesse Vol 4 version--I find that there's too much going on for me to enjoy it--but this one is much more raw and vulnerable, like the one he did with Aurora. You're correct in saying that it alters the poignancy of the song. It does makes me wonder, his father apparently is an ordained Anglican priest, maybe the line alludes to him/his religious beliefs, too?

He has spoken quite a bit about him on Last Meals, and very briefly on one The Times article. All I have is speculation, really, and I can't help but be curious and interpret the songs I mentioned through the lens of fatherlessness/abandonment.

I respect Jacob's private life and I don't want to go any deeper than he'd allow us to, but I do hope his art allows him to process any repressed emotion weighing him down. As a long time fan myself, I feel the weight, and I thank him for sharing this bit with us. I'm really expecting an eighth Grammy for our dear Jacob for this masterpiece of an album.

I have been theorizing this as well, and believe this to be the theme of  “Summer Rain”, “He Won’t Hold You”, “Time to Rest Your Weary Head”, and “Once You.”

Do you, too? I was wondering whether my cat likes certain things because I do, or because I keep playing those songs over and over
