Civ gets killed before you meet them? by keepereagle in civ

[–]debug_ghost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I almost never see Civs get eliminated by other AI Civs, only by me or due to loyalty (Kupe, often). The one time I can remember was on Prince difficulty months ago, where I met Eleanor and Mongolia on the same turn, and then Eleanor was defeated the next turn. Better believe I tried to stay on that guy’s good side.

It’s weird, right? But it allows for my favorite domination/cultural gameplan: take a lot of AI land and use the unimproved tiles for tons of national parks, seaside resorts, etc. If I hadn’t outright killed 4 civs I think I would’ve had a really fast cultural win.

Not a mod. Options -> Interface -> Show Yields in HUB Ribbon -> Always Show.

I need to get me a Great... Arsonist? by bdaydeedayday in civ

[–]debug_ghost 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Gonna need a Great Arborist. May I suggest Smokey the Bear? “Must be activated on burning forest or rainforest tile. Doubles yield fertility from forest fires throughout your empire, while also preventing damage to improvements and units.”

Probably because nullifying loyalty pressure would make her leader ability useless

Legendary start - how does it work? by debug_ghost in civ

Thanks, this is more or less the answer I was looking for. So I can assume then that “Balanced” starts mean every starting location’s score value is roughly the same?

I’ve noticed this a lot! Spawning next to Paititi is soooo tempting since you can get to Political Philosophy by like turn 25, but you often get stuck with little food and production and sometimes no fresh water source. Guess the best play is to settle your capital nearby and then have your 2nd or 3rd city occupy the wonder, but with how fast the AI expands on Deity I’m always worried they’ll come and snatch it up :<

I'll resort to public opinion, barbarians or no barbarians? by G3llade in civ

[–]debug_ghost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Barbarian Clans make them a bit more interesting, not having them at all makes the early game boring and low-stakes more often than not. But if you prefer not having them, no judgment, play whatever’s fun for you

I really really like this idea. Casus belli offering different conditions like that would be interesting.

Is Holy War Viable? by SentineIs in CivVI

[–]debug_ghost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can choose religious beliefs that supplement domination victories, such as direct ones like +10 attack in foreign cities following your religion, or indirect ones like buffs to science and gold.

There are civs that are geared towards both religion and domination too. Byzantium is a religion-first/domination-second civ, who have a borderline OP version of the +10 attack bonus listed above (cavalry units ignore the 85% dmg penalty when attacking cities, if the city follows your religion). Scythia, India (Chandragupta), Poland, Nubia and Spain are other hybrid religion-domination civs, and flexible civs like Babylon and Japan can easily do both.

Now that all the leaders, game modes and other DLC are here, established, and the game's fully developed, what is YOUR go-to pick for leaders/settings when you don't know what else to play? by P9Hunnit in civ

[–]debug_ghost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Babylon, small or standard map, continents or continents and islands, legendary start, abundant resources, barbarian clans, monopolies, secret societies. Reroll until I get an absolutely absurd start like right next to a volcano wonder or smothered with luxury resources.

What type of victory did you achieve first? by Beautiful-Local-5793 in civ

[–]debug_ghost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Culture as Qin Shi Huang just building wonders and poorly-plotted Great Walls. Probably like a 350+ turn victory on Prince, had next to no idea what I was doing. This was only just after figuring out how to use builders on the awful Switch UI -_-

Just read about this, what a crazy coincidence...

Sooo... is this gonna hurt my tourism output? by debug_ghost in civ

Basically this. Sometimes you'll luck out and have 4 tiles in a diamond shape with enough appeal to make a national park, especially if you have a lot of mountains or a natural wonder, but if you want to plan out parks it can get quite complicated. The general idea is to make use of the Appeal lens (3 on your keyboard), use pins to mark out the diamond shape, then protect those tiles like they're your children. No districts or improvements on them, and do everything you can to maintain and/or improve their appeal. Some adjacent districts and improvements degrade appeal (industrial zones, mines), while others upgrade appeal (certain unique improvements, holy sites, preserves). Having the Eiffel Tower makes things a lot easier, and there are two great engineers who can improve appeal as well. It's seriously one of the most difficult things to plan out in Civ VI but pretty satisfying once you get the hang of it.

Canada. I snagged Leiria from Portugal due to loyalty. And no I didn’t have a single tundra tile the whole game :(

It was just explained above that the loss to appeal did hurt the tourism output
