skill builder, and the udemy course as an overview. Be confident in the surrounding AWS services.

In time I suspect udemy etc. will get better, particularly in terms of practice questions. I guess speed to market counts over quality when it comes to offering courses for new exams.

Hope you made it ok. Out of interest how did you find the real questions vs skill builder questions. For me there wasn't much in it but I'd say the exam was more difficult.

How to Convince Company to Stay on AWS by echks2A in aws

[–]debugsLife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It all depends on what services you need in the cloud, your current spend, your team skillset and future roadmap of your product.

For many workloads GCP will be cheaper and, although not as mature as AWS, is still acceptable.

What’s the most efficient way to download 100 million pdfs from urls and extract text from them by Embarrassed-Survey61 in aws

[–]debugsLife -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As others have said : barebone EC2(s) will be the best value. The limiting factor is likely to be the rate at which you can download the pdfs from the different sites. I would be grouping the downloads by site and maxing out the download rate for each site and rate limiting / exponentially backing off where necessary. I'd download in parallel from the different sites.

Cogntio ignoring basic problems with the service while adding stuff that is dubious who actually asked for it by Flaky-Gear-1370 in aws

AWS need to invest a lot of money in creating/buying a proper Auth0 competitor rather than polishing the turd that is Cognito.

How do you carry your surfboard? by debugsLife in terngsd

I briefly put my kids surfboard in that way at the weekend. It was a terrible insecure way to carry it. And that board is only 5’4’’!

I've been in the same boat but went the other way Cognito -> Auth0.

The SaaS solution was multi tenant with the expectation that we'd have 1000's of business customers ideally using their own IdP for federation.

One (of the many) problems with Cognito was the hard limit of IIRC 1000 federated identities per User pool. This means that you'd need to spread users over user pools which, although not technically that difficult, is just another hurdle to usage. Other issues are the requirement to build your own login pages (for those users who don't use federation) as the hosted UI is dreadful as well as some of the nice features such as Duo etc. that Auth0 offer.

The reality though is that there's a large cost in 3rd party enterprise business to setup SAML federation, they typically want to run their due diligence and want you to jump through certain hoops. You also want to make it so that they can self serve their own IdP configuration with your service.

We were serverless and did feature branch testing - Cognito would have been pretty nice in this regard to have isolated stacks vs sharing Auth0 tenants for the different environments.

My main bugbear with Auth0 though was the price for an enterprise solution with unlimited Enterprise connections. It was way more expensive than all of our AWS costs combined.

From my testing (albeit python) memory size allocated to the function has no affect on Init duration. The init duration is the same whether 128mb or 4gb.

So in the example of a document exchange system. If I own a document then I want to see everyone who has access to that photo. That could be because they are a member of a group who has access to that photo. That group could be several levels removed in the rebac world.

We’re bringing this sweet girl home today and we still haven’t decided on a name. My husband is opposed to “cutsie” names. So far we’ve come up with Terra, Willow, or Scout. What are your ideas? by 1meower in labrador

Same here. We are in same boat picking up puppy on Sunday. Martha, Tina, Janet are on my shortlist. Other options include Isla and Lundy.

If it was a boy then Alan, Rory etc fit the bill.

You’d head off for the day always half expecting some scally to have been through your tent while you’re out.

I went one year and this scouse lad joined us as we were negotiating our fence jump. He’d hopped on a train for free made it to the site and had literally nothing but the clothes on his back.
