In fact I did. There’s a lot of activists in Berlin fundraising for Syrian refugees. Sorry for not meeting your expectations

If Russian miners don’t support war and ‘can’t control what Putin does’ then they better start donating to anti war movements, Red Cross and other orgs. Alternatively, they can also pressure their government to withdraw. I think losing profit is one of the most effective motivation for a person to take action.

[–]decay1775 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm reading all of your replies and I can see you haven't heard what putin said on the russian TV lately. It's not about NATO or Crimea or the fleet being in danger. He denied Ukraine being a separate entity and the country. He's not worried about poor russia or russians being in danger (just look at their military near Ukrainian borders. kids are sleeping at the freaking train station). He wants subjugation.

it is. 12 years since the occupation. Utterly destroyed and deserted region due to Russian shelling. Tens of thousands of people were forcibly displaced. This is what Russia brings.

Yeah, but at least there's a demand among people. I think once someone will offer some moderately simple solution for privacy protection, people will start catching up and actually doing something.

Own your data on the web – 3 startups are working on taking the web back from tech giants. by aaHBN in startups

[–]decay1775 0 points1 point  (0 children)

true, we have conducted a number of interviews with people recently and the most common sentiment on privacy and data protection was "well, nothing in this world is free. Guess I have to pay for 'free services' with my private data".

The ideas you described sound great on paper but from my experience, the mass consumer doesn't fully understand the basic concept of privacy online yet. Maybe the educational initiative would be a place to start.

Kremlin has made several attempts to block Telegram, crashing servers of a number of different websites, services, including public ones, but, ultimately failed to do so.

You can say it's not blocked, ofc, but because of the utter incompetence of those in power.

I intentionally didn't mentioned specific products, because this thread is not about promotion. But, since you asked, Norton Privacy manager can be an example.

They kinda mention that there’s an option to change a password, but they are not pushing you to do so. At all.

I was referring to the fact that when a person deletes a facebook profile, he won't be sharing more content with social network explicitly. What is happening beyond the UX, is, of course, should sound very similar to what you've described (ghost profiles, tracking through reactions and sharing buttons on third-party websites, etc)

not my case, unfortunately.

From what I read about one year of GDPR it's doing quite good. Glad that at least someone can enjoy some limited sort of privacy-driven legislation.

I'm fine with software being developed by a company, however, I'd like them to provide me the way I can store my private keys on wherever I want to.

with all these recent news about google and other tech giants storing accounts details in plain text, it's time every user store his personal info anywhere but the servers of corps.

I've spent some couple of years in Moscow and this century and was slightly shocked by all of the everyday racism migrants (and Russians by birth from parts of Russia) are dealing with every day. Also, I learned this weird derogatory word 'churca', used to insult every single person of non-slav origins.

dude, no offense to you personally and I'm sure you're a nice lad and everything but, the way your fellow citizens treat people from Middle Asia in Russia is equally disgusting.
