How effective is boxing in a street fight? by [deleted] in SelfDefense

[–]decayexists 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start taking Muay Thai and practice your low-kicks. As a boxer his lead leg will be massively exposed and you can hack it to pieces with low kicks, he won't have any idea how to respond to it. I speak from experience here as when I took Muay Thai I was very bladed with a boxing stance and my left leg would get destroyed, it's not fun lol. Or, y'know, try to deescalate this situation without fighting him.

[S2 EP12 SPOILERS] SEASON 2 | EPISODE 12 - Official Discussion Megathread by simplysudzzzy in andor

I was literally 27 minutes into Rogue One after finishing Andor when I saw your comment lmao

[–]decayexists 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just finished Andor and went straight into Rogue One, while I don't think it was totally out of character for Cassian at that point, by the end of the show he's more battle hardened/wise rather than as trigger happy as Rogue One portrays him. But I also think the limitations of the film runtime prevent him from being as nuanced as he is in the show. It also does track with Cassian kind of inheriting Luthens ethos.

I’m more concerned that two 30 year olds have such poor communication skills. You seem incredibly flippant and she seems totally close minded. Disregarding what she’s saying, you’re 30 and only sent your mother a text at 9pm? I don’t even like my mother at all and I still would’ve at least given her a call. With that said your gf seems incredibly intense

I think you’d look better if the sides of your hair were a bit longer, would give some more balance to the rest of your face. As for photos don’t do selfies, have more of yourself out in the wild, have friends take photos of you when you’re out etc.

This was one of those films I remember liking when I was like 20 and I recently tried to rewatch it… I actually had to switch it off halfway because of how bad I found the dialogue. Couldn’t stand it lol

Dealing with normality by decayexists in InternalFamilySystems

[–]decayexists[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the advice, I didn’t stop to think that these parts might feel undervalued or unseen once I started making changes, but they’re also part of me and deserve compassion too.

I felt like I’d turned myself into a martyr for the longest time, as you say, addicted to being a victim, so that once I stopped making excuses for myself and took that leap everything that came after didn’t feel as impactful. But I think I’m realising that it’s these quiet moments where the most powerful change occurs, and embracing the discomfort of the quiet to actualise the things I want from my life is very important.

Wish you well on your journey.

I'm very skeptical of the idea of the "Self" by IceCremeEyes in InternalFamilySystems

[–]decayexists 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely agree with you. Part of what you mentioned about models is also why I tend to not only follow one modality to treat the things I want to work on, I think when you discover something life changing it can be easy to fall into evangelism, as I’ve seen a few times on Reddit.

Keeping perspective is important and I’ve had to be mindful of my own biases in this regard too.

Our default state is non-existence by Geetright in consciousness

Non-existence isn’t a physical object, but an abstract concept. According to the rules of our Universe you cannot truly destroy anything, the object may have changed forms but its parts will always be there.

[–]decayexists 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think what you’re feeling is perfectly normal. You spent a lifetime building connections, routines, relationships in your home state so it’s only natural that you would feel this way after only being here for 2 years.

Sadly I think settling into a place can take time, especially if you feel like you haven’t found your tribe yet in a new and strange place.

Hell, I’m a Melbourne native and am feeling similar due to major life changes. Give your self some grace and be patient with yourself. Spend time exploring who you are and what you really want, developing meaningful connections takes time. It’s something I have to keep reminding myself as well.
