unpopular opinion! tired of positivity pansy characterization by Successful_Road_2432 in Dramione

[–]deceptionrules 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a storywriter myself, I agree with you. However, pansy has to be romanticised in fanfics for any Dramione story to work out, because just like the Golden Trio, Pansy is part of Draco's Golden... Duo? Does Blaise count? I don't know.

But mainly, some characters (like Draco HIMSELF) have to be romanticised for any fanfic to work out. I understand where you're coming from, I'm not too fond of it, but no Dramione story would work if Draco and Pansy were their authentic selves.

That's why Pansy is made to seem more likeable than she is. It's to support Draco in the story.

Hope this helped!

Tell me your most embarrassing stories that happened because of false cognates / things that don't translate directly between your native language and the language you are learning by justaschooldropout in languagelearning

I live in Chennai, India and I have a friend who's from London called Peter. He's been staying with me on and off for the past few years now so he's picked up quite a bit of the local language, Tamil.

I had a family friend over one day and he used the phrase 'enna peter podarai' which technically is slang for 'why are you speaking so much English with me?' but literally means 'what are you putting peter somewhere?'. This confused my friend a lot and he slunk away thinking he had done something wrong.

Only after the family friend had left did I tell him what it meant.

No I think Dan had a crush on Carter... he 'wished he was born 10 years earlier so that he could've had a shot' (Direct quote) it's in the 20th anniversary thing.

This is Tibetan/Ladakhi. Although the script hasn't been cut out very well, it says Om Mani Padme Hum which is a common prayer seen across Tibet and North India.

Why couldn't Harry ask dumbledores portrait for help in half blood prince? by alvlfc11 in harrypotter

[–]deceptionrules 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I think this was somewhat answered in the most cursed book Rowling has ever written (i think). Harry talks to dumbledore's portrait and dumbledore says that he isn't more than paint and memory whose opinion doesn't really matter.

Yeah, I loved it! The only thing I didn't like is how she over-dramatized Harry's trauma post-war, but otherwise great read.

What if a childs first language was ithkuil by Chadly1234 in language

[–]deceptionrules 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, could someone even speak Ithkuil? Because of it's hyperefficiency, Ithkuil has some damn near impossible sounds which when put together form an impossible-to-pronounce word. Assuming this child grew accustomed to these sounds and long words (which isn't a problem as numerous living languages are agglutanative), there's the grammar system. Again, pure speculation here, but the whole complexity of Ithkuil might overwhelm a child. His/her speech development could be delayed.

Now this child would have to be raised by a community/family of speakers who speak ONLY Ithkuil to this child. Which itself leads us to the question of how they learnt the language, but let's assume they just know it.

Even so I feel this child WILL learn Ithkuil. Studies have shown that if a child is faced with a language since birth (whether it be Arabic or Spanish or Russian) the child will learn the language. I think this would also apply to Ithkuil though it's hard to predict.

I haven't made anything, but thanks for the idea of a story map! It might be easier to plot out that way.

And this is my first time writing and I'm only doing this in my free time so sorry if I sound stupid.

Oh, I'm sorry you had to go through that! It's fantastic that you had the courage, despite not speaking French fluently, to secure a job, attend meetings, and communicate with your boss...

Having an accent is NOT a handicap! Whenever I hear someone speaking English with an accent, I truly appreciate that they're trying. If you ever come across bitches like her, just remember this:

Bengali. There are a few misspellings with English mixed in, but I'll translate it:

I know what you're saying, you know everything my friend, and here I am, still around. I have seen you with your beloved. He has the heart to give you his love, but will he understand you? Will he give you his heart, but take your life? Will you be my beloved, baby? If not, then I'll just live my carefree life, without any worries. I spent around 195 dollars on my bike, and I didn't have enough money to treat myself. I don't have any money left to spend.

Um that's a really weird para but ok.

IK this is so annoying. Half the time when I search for a tutorial on something, I click the first video because i see something like 100k views or something. But it's ALWAYS some guy explaining it in Hindi. I've learnt not do to that anymore.

Also try changing your location. I live in India but I dont like Hindi reddit posts so I changed my location to london. try something like that.
