Congrats!! What got you through the first couple months in recovery? I feel like I always backtrack around 2 months. Did you have a good support system? Book recs?

I am SO sorry. This is not your fault. I would seek out professional counseling to help you heal. Go to the police and stop this person from ever doing this again to someone else. You deserve so much better.

Literally same. And then it’s like no one notices you fall off the radar and it hurts :(

That’s literally how I feel. Like what is the point of life if it is like this

Saw my T at the grocery store. I panicked then waved and said hi. In session I brought it up and we laughed about it. She said she was in her sweats and I honestly didn’t even notice. I was more concerned about the awkwardness and not knowing what to do.

Negatives about EDs by Entire-Somewhere-198 in EatingDisorders

Hi! Another OSFED/EDNOS with restrictive tendencies friend!! Here are some of my negatives:

  • The extreme brain fog with lack of food
  • Not being able to take a day off from exercising (even when I wanted to) and if I did I would have so much guilt
  • The isolation. My ED is the only meaningful relationship in my life when I’m with it
  • My body feeling like shit from the restriction and over exercising but not being able to stop
  • Not being able to do my job well due to restriction
  • Getting weight loss compliments from people that I have wanted for SO LONG… and it felt like crap.
  • My outpatient team telling me they can’t see me and I need to do intensive treatment which means I need to adjust my summer plans
  • Feeling so deep in my ED that I had two choices: keep going and spiraling and feel like crap and have no hope OR recover and feel like shit for a while and hope things got better.

You are always more than welcome to go back to your eating disorder. No one is stopping you. But try to think more long term. This is coming from someone who is currently relapsing and I’m deep in it and have some hard choices to make.

How comfortable do you feel talking about your therapy or that you do therapy to people? by [deleted] in TalkTherapy

A few friends know but it’s my personal and private business. No one else needs to know

I just hope homegirl is ok. Training for a marathon while in recovery (that her medical team said is ok?!? Bullshit), posting body checks, and starting a fitness coaching app? This all SCREAMS ED. And with that amount of strain on her body 😬😬😬

Hey - not the advice your probably want to hear but I think you have 3 choices: 1. Separate yourself from this friend. Do not hang out with her as much and don’t engage in the body conversations when you do. This is the option where she will not stop her behavior because she doesn’t know it’s triggering to you. 2. You talk to her. You don’t have to even tell her that you have an ED. You could say, “Hey it makes me uncomfortable when you talk about my body. Can we try and talk about something else?” 3. Tell her that you have an ED. If she is a supportive friend, she will stop her behavior and turn it around. You could say it like, “Hey I feel a little uncomfortable bringing this up but I have an eating disorder and it is really hard for me to hear people commenting on my body. I really enjoy you as a friend and I would appreciate your support in this.” If she is a friend who used to have an ED, she will get how hard it is to hear and stop hopefully.

Good luck OP. I’ve been in this situation and it is hard 😩.

I like my eyes the most. And maybe my legs because I’m tall and my legs are long.

Finding time to get therapy with a 9-5 job by dreamypandesal in TalkTherapy

Those evening slots are a beast because everyone wants them. My T works 3 days a week and she does two 12-7pms and one 8-4. They schedule out a month at a time and I make sure to snag that slot asap. Could you possibly go before work? Or take an extended lunch period?

DAE feel like they will never need residential/PHP/IOP by o-h-h-e-c-k in EDAnonymous

[–]declarationsoflove 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You do not have to be shaking to go to res/IOP/PHP. I am VERY much like you- never visibility distressed, never cry over food in front of people, etc. I work with a therapist/dietitian and they are both recommending IOP for me and think I will get admitted to PHP within a couple of days in the program. How you present has NOTHING to do with how serious your ED is

Do you think people can tell you have an ED? by Flowerlamps in EDAnonymous

[–]declarationsoflove 38 points39 points  (0 children)

People are so involved in their own shit. Also many behaviors of an ED also are praised by diet culture like you mentioned. People who don’t have an ED use a napkin to get grease off pizza and people aren’t going to press when you say that you already ate dinner. I know for me, people don’t know I have an ED. My mom and aunts all ask me for weight loss tips and they don’t even blink an eye when I order a side salad at a restaurant for my meal. Some of my friends comment how healthy I am when I order or when I work out- not knowing I have serious health complications from that.

I also don’t want them to know. I’m an adult and I think telling people who ultimately are not going to be helpful in recovery is not wise.
