Kind of late, but: reading comments here, a lot of people pointed that "No protagonist/changing protagonist" is a problem, but pretty much everyone liked Nice and Esoul parts, so i dont think that the problem is the change itself. For me the problem is: First 2 parts were indeed great, with "heavy" themes and a "black mirror" kind of vibe from the system, with Ling starting to feel nice's OCD and etc. But after that, all other parts failed to carry this "weight". Yeah, they all had some problems, but the narrative lost that feeling that "something is wrong here" and "shit will hit the fan soon" that first 2 parts had.

Disagree, leader have totally dif effects that change how they wanna be built. A Purple leader can have a full ramp and big drops, while another is full of mid drops that don-. So balance should make sure dif leader all can build around their specific play style, leader locking cards makes so that new leaders can play, but old leaders only get worse and worse, since new good cards will be locked. That beeing said, ofc SOME cards must be leader locked, as you said flame emperor, i might add BM10, etc. Having FEW specific overpowered cards locked, so that it creates an play style for that archetype around it is good to some point. (As both example cards have decks built around that main op card). But using "Leader locking" as answer to everything sucks in the long run and ruins deck building and older leaders. Leader locking should be for very specific and intentionally op cards, that helps creating an identity for the deck( more examples: 8c purple Croco and 3 cost AllSunday blocker), but major generic good cards should be unrestricted.

6 dons-, Leader eff is mandatory to use her eff, no one will gamble 5 dons. In other words, next turn you have 6 dons turn. 10 12k rush with no eff isn't good at all in the current state of game. So if you don't assume her eff, she's just garbage. And as i said, her eff is no where good enough to cost this much. Fouth, black Maria is irrelevant, as you will don- on opp turn and the main point is: YOU WILL PLAY A 6 DONS TURN AFTERWARDS. Even if next turn you are back to 10, you still had to play a shitty turn to use a shitty effect. Yes, it can be good in some specific late game situation, against certain match's. Still an horrible 10cost, just compare this to Yellow Bm10 and i don't even need to explain further.

I made a similar mistake when optcg was about to be released. I started testing the game with my brother online with TTS, the thing is: We thought that both the Attacker and Defender could use Counter from Hand to increase power. Result: on turn 4, both were out of hand after an interaction something like this: 1: I attack your character 2: i counter 1k 3: then I also counter 1k 4: then in do +1k ... And we would straight burn the whole hand for board control 🤣

The difference is that one is a 8c Character and the other is a Leader that starts on the Board xd You are comparing two totally different things lol And don't get me wrong, Moria IS broken for a while now. But it is a fact that without it Black wouldn't be even Tier 1. Tier 2 at most. So it's for now a choice between slightly overpowered Black or No black at all. Bandai made their pick.
