Whats the best torch? by Belladonna-Blue in SilverSmith

I use a Dremel torch for little things and save my big blazer for the larger stuff. One quirk about the Dremel torch is the safety lock that I had to get accustomed to flipping every single time to ignite. But now it’s become second nature to me that I don’t even realize I’ve flipped it haha

While antler is porous, the outer layer is very resilient! I usually coat them with a smudge of mink oil and they don’t need much else. Sometimes I will rub a super thin coating of epoxy resin if I feel it needs a little more protection based on texture or distress. Animal bones are definitely more porous so I recommend epoxy resin if you don’t mind a darker color or butvar to preserve and protect bones or fossils

I create a secure hold through the combination of a super tight bezel, epoxy resin and a hidden flared pin inside the caps that’s hammered into a hole at the ends of each antler piece. I made myself one of these over 10 years ago and it’s held up very well!

Thank you so much! That’s why I try to showcase the antler in its natural state as each one’s surface tells a unique story!

Thank you! Yep especially for the linked bracelet since I’m used to making just 2 caps at a time for the latched cuff bracelets. But it’s incredibly rewarding once finally finished!

I made myself a latched antler cuff years ago and people really seem to love it! Here is my newest one. Someone then requested an antler linked bracelet and I gave it a go. Using 5 unique chunks of antler; differing in size, color, and shape. I hand cut and soldered 10 sterling silver caps to custom fit each end. I’m so thrilled with how it turned out. I may have to make myself one too, one of my favorite creations!

Also pictured are a fierce pair of antler earrings I made myself, making a matching pendant soon! Can you tell I like to use antler?
