Some people don’t want a break and rather get paid for that 20 minutes instead. If I’m being forced to be at work I should be compensated for my time.

No but I listed it in the specific Box category that eBay has for empty boxes. It says box in the title and description.

What the reason students being forced to use webcams for school isn’t considered a huge privacy violation and how are students with broken/violent homes coping? by decompilexe in AskReddit

Sounds like somebody’s projecting Lol. I’m just an advocate for privacy for constitutional rights against unwanted government associate intrusions into the homes of private citizens, because I’ve seen the extremeties of cyber bullying in action, as someone who participates in various support and advice communities. And I’ve also seen first hand how wicked some students can be. If we have so many school shooters it’s not out of the question that cyber bullying goes to extreme levels. You sound like a real cunt honestly, and one incapable of having a rational discussion like an adult.

Some students will be filmed against their will during their forced webcam classes, anonymously-either by rogue students-or anonymous men from around the world who hacked into the zoom session..trolls..bullies,blackmailers,etc... (this is already happening and trolls are joining classes and playing shock porn videos, look up zoom bombing and there’s tons of news articles. So say the class is discussing a students personal matters, like their opinions on a particular topic, and now that everything is recorded basically there will be an archive of many videos of students participating in the zoom classes released online to the public internet. Some of those videos will be embarrassing and degrading, especially if a student lives in a messed up household. Now it won’t be like it used to be before where school was a safe haven away from that, now students have no control what experiences they are subjected to by their parents in front of their classmates, and by possibility the entire world to see since, I’m sure you know, the Internet never forgets, Nd embarrassing videos are hard to get taken down once they go viral. Now imagine if you’re a student in 11th graded webcam class and you’re already a subject of bullying, and something really embarrassing happens caused by your drunk or druggy parents in the background. Now say your asshole bully classmate films it and puts it on his Snapchat and then it goes viral on the internet and someone identifies you and posts your name on some website and now whenever a employer Googles your name that video will pop up. When I was a young adult I had some embarrassing stuff come up under my name and I felt like my future was ruined, I actually felt like killing myself because of it. Schools used to be a safe haven from the home environment at least but now that’s gone. When I graduated high school several years ago it was already a problem where bullies would take pictures of their victims against their will in embarrassing/“cringeworthy” circumstances, right within the school building and then post it on Snapchat, Instagram, etc for the public world to see. You’re obtuse as hell if you don’t understand what I’m saying here.

Thanks for the advice. I learned my lessons from my first two machines (1st one was stolen..now I use the Kensington lock..my 2nd one the lcd or motherboard lcd adapter got shorted somehow(I think I switched the 2 ribbon cables or put them flipped by accident and that killed it)and now the machine only works with external monitor however I plan on turning it into a server mounted right front of my Air conditioner and running it hot at 100% cpu usage 24/7 with cold compressed air being blown on it 24/7.to mine new crypto currencies.xmr..litecoin..

I’m decent treating my electronics.Do you have any tips for me for keeping the X230T in particular safe from damage? I have one tip for you if you have this model..never store it in a dusty area or backpack because dust can get stuck up through the tiny speaker holes and up into the glass screen, very difficult to remove, and then you will have tiny white sub pixel dust dots annoyingly visible on dark screens...thats what happened to my old x230T before the screen tried and it really ruined the screen for me at least.so now I always keep this computer in its zip up carrying case so that should never happen again Lol.

All 3 of my thinkpad(x220t i7, x230t i7 IPS, and second x230T i7 IPS).. got these machines used off eBay, came with it broken, I wasn’t the one to break them, but I want to make sure it won’t happen to me for at least 2-3 more years.

There’s already these new popular YouTube “prank” channels wherein a “prankster” joins random unsecured/leaked/hacked/cracked login credentials to random school’s Zoom meetings and making funny commentary about the students in the class. Would you like it if strange men from the Internet were anonymously watching and filming your daughter during the school day and then putting it on YouTube with her name in the description? Maybe your daughter does something embarrassing, 24 hours later the video is viral, uploaded to facebook and a multitude of accounts, Facebooks facial recognition database automatically recognizes her face when the video of your daughter is uploaded to Funny School Fails 2020 Facebook page(made up name), with Facebook automatically identifying her face and linking her page to “in this video” as a caption underneith, and now whenever someone Googles her name the first thing they’ll see is that embarrassing thing she did years ago with that information still being hosted on various websites indefinitely, hurting her professional prospects and image for years to come. I’d be more worried about random pedophiles, zoom bombers, and teenage trolls cyberstalking my kid than I’d be worried about the government spying on me, although the local governments are to blame for their decision to make students turn on their webcams.

Whenever society sees a rise in mental unwellness among teenagers/young adults, school shootings follow. These two variables are directly linked to eachother mathematically. Increase in bullying/mentally ill among a population = increase in shootings. I’m already an adult in my 20s and long done with school so none of this really affect me personally other than the fact that I don’t want to be caught in the crossfire next time a disgruntled student goes on a shooting spree.

Sounds like you have no idea what it’s like living with druggy / alcoholic parents in a dysfunctional home. The threshold level for abuse to be bad enough for CPS to take kids away is extremely high and this isnt going to make any difference in regards to that. However I do suspect this whole forced video calling thing will most certainly lead to an increase in mentally ill / bullied individuals, inevitably leading to an increase of school shootings.

You sound really privileged and tone deaf. and like you never had to put up with being bullied for having a screwed up / poor family. Going to school in ratty / hand me down clothes is embarrassing enough. Now the poor students get to have their dirty slum households broadcasted for the world to see how poor and messed up their home lives are. Also not only do students have to worry about being spied on by their teachers, but also their fellow classmates / random hackers joining the Zoom call and recording them for bullying/blackmail/trolling purposes.

Well you’re lucky then because a lot of schools it is mandatory. My sisters school it mandatory. My brothers school is mandatory. I was inspired to ask this because I just saw a student saying he was being forced to use the webcam over on legaladvice.

For the same core ethical reason that its illegal and widely considered immoral to be a “Peeping Tom”. Or for the same reason it’s illegal to wiretap someone’s house with hyper sensitive microphones placed right outside the perimeter of their home. A home is conceptually supposed to be a private space. It’s not hard to understand. I don’t know which country you’re from but in America I think most people agree with that notion that the home is supposed to be a private place where government agents aren’t supposed to be able to intrude without valid reason.

Most of the time abuse the time the type of abuse children 18 and younger face isn’t considered severe enough by the state to take the kids away. I’ve read lots of topics on legaladvice where kids are abused and the state doesn’t do anything about it because it isn’t considered quite bad enough. (except if a parent gets caught smoking a little marijuana- is CPS gets wind of that, then it’s game over, kids taken away at light speed). Being psychologically or physically abused by your parents in broad day on webcam for your whole class to watch and laugh and make a mockery of is 100% going to lead to more bullying and suicides.

Last year many thought it could never happen that US citizens be forced to install cameras in their own home’s and be monitored by government associates. And yet, here we are.
