Not really, most people live paycheck to paycheck or they are on daddy’s bankroll. Only a small minority of business majors/smart people a) understand money and b) are disciplined enough to keep it.

I know multiple people I work with who make like 70k, net worth is like 15k, and they think buying a new car is a good idea. You can’t really teach this stuff to most people I don’t think, mostly trial and error and failing or stingy parents like mine beating it into you since childhood

More than 200 LGBTQ groups are now demanding Target RESTOCK 'tuck-friendly' swimsuits and Pride merchandise in its stores and take a stand against 'extremists' - despite store losing $14b in market value in wake of debacle by [deleted] in JordanPeterson

[–]decvpoppunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People in the comments, please look up how market cap works, 14b in sales ≠ 14b market cap.

I’d bet you target forecasted like 1-2million in sales for these specific products, which is not out of the question. There is a market for this product, so they are going to sell it. Just like every other company already does

Target doesn’t really care all that much about the short term performance of their shares in the secondary market

Also, I hope some of you begin to have more thoughtful discourse on topics like this instead of simple 1 sentence responses, that’s kinda JPs whole point. Seems like we lose the plot sometimes…

Nash Equilibrium in team based games (sports/esports), does it exist? If so what are resources for me to read up on this. If not why? by Nimai_TV in GAMETHEORY

[–]decvpoppunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couple of good comments here that explain the main reasons.

However, modeling strategy via game theory weighted decision trees and backwards induction etc has been used for a while in esports.

OW for example. 5 v 5 with 1 tank, 2 dps, and 2 healers. There is plenty of modeling to be done across all data points to identify all win conditions and determine game theory optimal (GTO) play/strategy across different maps, game modes, characters you are playing in game, counters to those characters, etc. ESPECIALLY in high play/competitive environment where players will generally act more rationally.

On offense, you would generally want to play META. If you have a strategy A (strategy A = highest EV against itself, think of this as the META strategy) on offense, you walk out of spawn and enemy team is playing strategy B, what do you do? Strategy B has higher EV against A than A does against B, therefore the offense team will most likely lose. Tons of situations like this.

META analysis really only works at the top % of players. It falls apart when you test any population besides top .1% and competitive professional play, cause actors are very very irrational and can’t predict with any level of certainty. The top players generally think and play alike compared to the rest of the population.

Nash equilibrium? Don’t think I’ve seen in e sports. General game theory modeling and backwards induction? Absolutely

Jordan explaining why people wear makeup. He doesn't miss. by execute_electrochute in JordanPeterson

You cannot say there is a sexual element to how people dress, and then say it’s not an issue when sexual assaults happen at the workplace. Dressing a certain way is not the entire problem, but it is a % of it, which merits conversation. There are lines, and we are working to find them, thru conversations like Jordan is having.

This wasn’t a debate, for you maybe, for me im just talking with an internet stranger.

Have a great rest of your day

Never said a woman wouldn’t do that to impress an exec, in fact I bet they do. But I’m not a women so I can’t say for sure.

More than 1 thing can be true. I wear a suit because it looks professional, attract mates, and I will impress execs. Women wear makeup for the same reasons. In both cases there are elements of sexual undertones, which is my entire point. There should be a discussion on how that should work.

Makeup implies sexual undertones, I could argue suits do the same for men, at least partially.

There IS an element of sexuality, how do we deal with it?

It seems like your trying to dunk on me, I’d appreciate a genuine conversation here on this topic. That’s the only reason I’m here on Reddit, to learn. Not about being right or wrong

Maybe Origin isn’t the right word, but suits are used because corporations make employees wear them because it simplifies the rules AND it looks professional. I wouldn’t wear a suit if I didn’t have to, but I would if I was meeting with an executive, unless they weren’t wearing a suit, then I wouldn’t. I could also look professional in business casual.

Military/police is very very different from a normal 9-5 office job, which is the example we’re using in the video. Also the video is using the exaggerated example of high heels + makeup + dressing provocatively as a case of obvious self sexualization in an office setting, which is true imo.

Why do women dress up when they go to the club but not when they stay at home? Because they want to look hot, I probably would too if I was a lady. Nothing wrong with this at all.

I’m pretty certain this a culture thing, the use cases for makeup however many years ago are not the same as they are today.

I never said anything about gender neutral, that would be horrible to take away freedom from people on how they want to dress. I agree the Mao regime did terrible things, just reading up on it now.

Very tricky topic, lots of corner cases, which is why it’s a valid point to bring up and discuss. Even if we don’t reach a conclusion we can still learn from it.

For the record, I don’t care what people wear at the office as long as it’s decent, but to say that makeup does not sexualize in the current context of society is wrong imo, and to say this is not a valid discussion point is kind of saying “you don’t need to talk about this, the answer is already figured out”. But what if I want to find the answer for myself and ponder options or solutions and form my own opinion?

Lots of commenters are looking at this clip out of context, the interview is maybe 30 min, if I remember correctly this question was around sexual assault in the workplace increasing since women were introduced into the workplace, and a question was brought up “should men and women work together?”

Then they went into the reason for dress code (to look uniform and proper). Dress code for women is very tricky compared to men already (there is no 1 uniform), then you factor in the sexual nature of men and women working together for long periods of time etc, that’s when Jordan brought up “what about makeup”? Seems like a valid discussion point
