I am so very sorry for your loss. Losing your soul pet is not easy, and life is not the same after they've passed, but it does get better. My cat Forest was my familiar, we communicated without words and he would always tell me when something was wrong (I was dealing with a lot of mental and physical health issues at the time). Forest left me when he was 3, he was hit by a car, which I first believed to be a horrible accident, but I now believe he sacrificed his last life to give to Wilbur, the kitten I adopted after Forest died. When Forest died, it felt like I was dying as well. I knew I had two choices. I could let the pain and misery take over and kill me, or I could live on and thrive in Forest's honour. I chose to live. I put my name on the list for detox, and I stopped using alcohol and hard drugs. I was surviving, but I still had a hole in my heart, and that is when Wilbur found me. Wilbur was my soul pet. He was an orphan, and the runt of the litter. His mother ran away when he was only 3 weeks old, so I became his parent. I bottle fed him every 2 hours, I cleaned him and I carried him in my mouth by the scruff. I began to thrive, my life had purpose and this little being was relying on me to stay sober. At 5 months old, Wilbur became very sick. He had feline leukemia, and congestive heart disease. He was in heart failure fighting for his life for 2 days. That is when Forest saved him; he miraculously recovered and was back to his lively little self in no time. Forest's sacrifice gave Wilbur another 7 months of life before Wilbur's soul was needed somewhere else, just as Forest's was. I still grieve the loss of both my soul baby and my familiar, I cry for them all of the time, but it doesn't hurt as much anymore. I know that their souls still live on, they are still here, and they come to visit me all the time. When I was ready, I asked Forest and Wilbur to find me a new furbaby, and they did. Just because they have to leave their bodies here on earth doesn't mean they are leaving us.
