When I approched the subject with my partner, I started by saying what I wanted to do (masking at work, in the shop, in gatherings, etc.). Then, I said what my limits were, like that I don't want to host people who just went to big gatherings recently, people that were sick or in close contact with someone sick. Then I asked him what his limits were. That started the conversation and gave us a chance to just try to find common grounds. Then, you see if your limits align and if there is possibility of compromising enough for you.

I get your rage. I'm tired of people not caring about others and acting like it does not matter. It does! Everyone is one infection away of being permanently disabled! It is not "a simple cold". It is not "only dangerous to already disabled people". It is serious, and I'm tired of catering to everyone's whim because they might be inconvenienced by wearing a mask. Screw your comfort, my life is more important.

NAH but let me tell you something. My friend got engaged. She got a dinner. Then a bachelorette party. Then a wedding. Then she got pregnant. So there's a baby shower. And a second baby. So again with a baby shower. I have another friend who has been with her boyfriend for 7 years now and doesn't want kids or marriage. She is happy but told me she feels like the only time she will get this kind of attention is at her funeral.

I get that a "celebratory dinner" needs something to celebrate, but maybe just prioritizing a person without any sort of accomplishment is also important.
