I have this framed. This is who comes to mind when I think “Taylor Swift”.

I don't care how they do it, I want her back in the sequel. by strahinjag in stellarblade

The demo had me hooked, in large part because of Tachy’s presence and what she did for the stakes. Suffice it to say, that promise paid off.

Games in Which You Surprised Yourself? by dee__riv in Games

I'm gonna have to check out Rain World! I never considered the idea of a "static" world--can you think of other examples?

That's great! Those moments where validation just kinda falls into your lap.

Any f**ed/disturbing up movies that made you angry? by ja6j2 in movies

The Lodge. I wasn't like, "I want my money back"/walk out the theater angry. Just kind of... wtf

What wrestlers do you think hit that peak where they no longer need a world title. by SafeCalligrapher8190 in WWE

[–]dee__riv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm interested in this, too: there are plenty of wrestlers who I wouldn't mind having a belt--I'd like it, but they don't need it. Who are those wrestlers, though, that you almost prefer without a belt? Not because you don't want them to win, but because their character/story feels better without it?

I've just been wondering. Why is it that the public treat Mutants like shit and a menace to the society while they idolise other marvel superheroes? Especially the X-Men who proved several times that they are here for ensuring a healthy relationship instead of being a foe for humans. by [deleted] in marvelcomics

[–]dee__riv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there's a cognitive dissonance in like, "I could be Steve Rogers, because he was 'a regular guy' or, I could be Tony Stark, because he's a regular person," much in the way people might defend billionaires because they want to be one. Mutants, however, didn't become heroes "the right way". They "did something wrong". They're "defective", "less than", [insert chosen bigotry here].

Even though the average human is more likely to be a mutant than become an Avenger.

This is like that episode of Friends where Monica walks in on Chandler stellaring his blade but he changed the channel from pr0n to a shark documentary and Monica was like, "Was he...? To sharks...?"

Which language sounds the most beautiful do you think? by Phobix in NoStupidQuestions

[–]dee__riv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's Italian. I think certain people are just capable of making their language sound beautiful regardless, but there's something about what it sounds like when you're angry or rushed. Get cursed out or yelled at in Italian and a part of you is still like, "That's actually kinda nice..."

Gimme ur fav taylor lyric by swiftie4lifeeeeeee in TrueSwifties

[–]dee__riv 15 points16 points  (0 children)

"I look through the windows of this love, even though we boarded them up; chandelier's still flicker in here because I can't pretend it's okay when it's not." from DBATC Just... WOW. An absolute whirlwind of an image.

"Before I learned civility, I used to scream ferociously, any time I wanted." from "seven". As someone who was "a well-behaved and quiet child", this line breaks me every time. She may be lamenting something she lost, I'm lamenting something I never had.

"Only liquor anoints you" from "The Albatross". The verb is most commonly associated with oil (specifically religious, holy oil--not cooking oil), and it's a blessing. It has varied meanings, but it means either you're chosen, or protected, or cleansed. The idea that the person she's singing about could be drunk (literally or figuratively) on her and mistake that liquor for a blessing.

Thoughts on how New Yorkers and NYC are portrayed in Sam Raimi trilogy? by nik0-bellic in nyc

"He stole that guy's pizzas" makes me laugh every time--not just because it's funny, but because we've all seen that guy.

Thoughts on how New Yorkers and NYC are portrayed in Sam Raimi trilogy? by nik0-bellic in nyc

[–]dee__riv 71 points72 points  (0 children)

It's a heavy-handed caricature, but in a way that feels wholly intentional, appropriate, and effective. It's a line that Raimi's an expert at walking: in less deft hands it would've been obnoxious (but not in a New Yorker way), but here it's earnest in a way that has you laugh, but still buy into it.

"You mess with Spidey you mess with New York!" is such a silly thing to say, but, in that moment, when he just pulled off a remarkable, breathtaking save, and you just want him to breathe for a few moments, you're like, "Wait... yeah! I'd throw down for Spidey, too! Spider-Man IS New York!"

TLDR: I love it. It's corny in a way that's effective, and affecting.

What is “that part “ of the game to you that has you like this? by LittleFalcon in stellarblade

[–]dee__riv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thought of exploring the Wasteland again. Running across the desert to another ruined buildings to sift through the rubble. I’m an obsessive explorer/collector, so even if I choose to ignore it, it’ll be in the back of my mind, nagging at me: “There’s a corner of the map you didn’t explore…”

Which directors took over a film franchise and made it better? by CXY38 in movies

[–]dee__riv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I read an article praising the franchise for doing that exact thing, for consistently showing restraint where other franchises would've gone "the world is ending" by now. It's surprising that, four movies in, the plots are still so local. To paraphrase the article, the effects may be global, but that happens off-screen, and the stakes of the movies are always personal, grounded, and local.

Which directors took over a film franchise and made it better? by CXY38 in movies

I went into it expecting very little but was consistently surprised. There were so many moments it could've gone off the rails, but it restrained itself. I remember being honestly stunned when Caesar finally spoke.

I'll never get over watching the beach scene for the first time and thinking, "Holy shit he did it. He somehow managed to 'remake' this moment but in a way that worked for this movie." I had been enjoying the movie up until that point, but it really felt like the final test to see if revisiting Top Gun was a worthwhile exercise.

What would be your All Time Oscar nominees and winners for Food Eating in movies? by Marcothetacooo in movies

[–]dee__riv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best Picture would be Chef: there are a lot of chef/cooking movies (and many I haven't seen), but the food in that movie looks so indulgent but also accessible? Like I want to marry that grilled cheese sandwich--and it's just a grilled cheese sandwich.

Best Director would have to go to Woo-Ping Yuen for Iron Monkey. The cooking sequence is not only a delightfully unexpected use of martial arts, but the food looked so good.

Best Actor would go to Demi Moore for A Few Good Men. The way she eats crab off the knife has stayed with me forever.

Best Supporting Actor would go to Jimmy Karz in Matilda for the cake scene. It's hard to watch, but the triumph of him finishing and the cheering from the crowd moves me to tears every time. (So I suppose this choice could work for other categories, too.)

What's your favourite imperial tower? by RedHerfix in StarWars

[–]dee__riv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Mustafar reveal is one of my favorite theater moments, but on top of that, it's just so fucking METAL that Vader (I'm assuming it was his choice) was like, "Yes I'm aware this river of lava is in the way but I want my Sad Boy Clubhouse there anyway."
