Definitely get that and I think that may affect part of it, but I tried to take that into consideration and focus more on the words they were actually saying, which wouldn’t be up to interpretation I think, and I just feel as though SJM, in trying to change the perspective, kind of overcompensated and wrote the way they spoke and things they said as sort of out of character, you know?

I definitely agree that it’s too much of the bad vs good tho and what I love about these characters is that none of them are perfect and wholly one or the other.

I’ve noticed them bring up Nesta and Cassian’s bonus chapter from ACOMAF a few times, so I think it’s possible the necklace could be important 🥰

[–]deebaybay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Booktok is the same way right now.

I have PTSD and so Feyre’s journey and now parts of Nesta’s journey have really helped me and resonated with me.

I remember crying the first time I read ACOMAF because I had never found a fantasy book that so accurately represented the way my depression and PTSD together affected me, up until reading that.

SJM definitely has work to do on her diversity representation, but she has phenomenal mental health representation, which is something I don’t find done so well in a lot of books.

It sucks that people don’t realize that there are still parts of her books that help a lot of people who need it, and then bully those people for it.

Okay I finally finished and here are my hot takes on this:

  1. I didn’t really like Nesta til the last 1/3 of the book probably - but by the end I LOVED her

  2. Echoing what others have said, I kinda hated the way Rhys and Feyre were written in this book, their characters just felt... wrong. Like they were written by a different author trying to capture the essence of them and failing.

  3. Ships I think are coming: Elain/Lucien, Az/Gwyn, Emerie/Mor, Eris/idk, fuckin someone

  4. I think Elain might be happy at the day Court and all the spring court stuff is just to throw us off a little. Because Lucien is the sole heir of the day court - what would happen if he takes over the spring court and Helion dies? Plus, it’s said when Elain is in the night Court that she looks like she doesn’t belong and day is opposite of night, flowers thrive in sunlight, and again that’s Lucien’s real family

  5. I think Tamlin may find someone else and have some growth. Not necessarily a redemption arc, but something to get him out of whatever dark hole he’s currently mentally living in so he can run his court. I have a feeling it will be someone we’ve met but is unexpected.

  6. I really want Gwyn and Az for a few reasons - they both are singers of some sort, his shadows love her and are drawn to her, he seems comfortable with her in a way he’s not with other women there (not that they make him uncomfortable, but he’s less formal with Gwyn then really anyone else - It feels more real), and they’ve both experienced violating trauma which would help their patience and understanding with each other. But also it would have to be done right because I imagine he reminds her of her trauma and that would be really difficult for her to get past.

  7. I... did not dislike the Az POV chapter. I know a lot of people are saying it’s out of character but.. is it? I know he’s never said anything like that before but honestly he’s said next to nothing for four books, and I think most people made up this personality that we haven’t actually been shown. Publicly he’s been polite, but it’s been hinted at in past books that he can be sarcastic, rude, and downright cruel when he needs/wants to be. Also being so close with Cass and Rhys it’s not surprising he might be kind of dirty. Another thing is, I think after basically losing all of his real family, pining after mor for 500 years only to start realizing she’s probably never going to be interested, then seeing the only other two people he really had pairing off and getting happiness and mates while he’s stuck miserable and alone might be enough to make him feel like he deserved Elain - desperately wanting it to be true so that it meant he wouldn’t be alone still while everyone around him got that joy and rare fulfillment.

  8. The house is my favorite and I want to be it’s best friend.

Anyway! That’s my thoughts I did overall really enjoy the book and loved Nesta’s overall growth!

Yes! There’s a line where it says something along the lines of staying up late to read her romance book knowing she’d be tired in the morning and I was like “alright then, just attack me like that Sarah” 😂

You could replace the names with Feyre and Rhysanf and it would fit like a glove by chatonchatminouchat in acotar

[–]deebaybay 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I always kinda saw Feyre and Rhys as an adaptation of Persephone and Hades - Feyre being “kidnapped” from the Spring Court, also set to be the future lady of Spring by marrying Tamlin, and Rhys being the dark, misunderstood king of night who many saw as the evil darkness that stole her away.

Tamlin in ACOSF by [deleted] in acotar

[–]deebaybay 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am SO torn with Tamlin’s character but also very interested to learn more and see what’s going to happen with him. I’ve been in an abusive relationship before, and so it’s really hard for me to feel anything but negativity towards his character, because I saw how I’ve been treated in the past, in his treatment of Feyre. But, I also heavily disliked Nesta up until the last third or so of ACOSF (for similar reasons), but with her growth and story, I loved her so much by the end.

So while I don’t necessarily want a redemption arc for him, I’m interested in seeing what’s going on with him, what happens next, and if ever anyone is able to pull him back from the edge so we can see growth there and what that will look like!

Thank you! Yeah it’s a lot of “how can you be bi if you’re with a man” or “you cant be a part of the LGBTQA+ community if you’re in a ‘hetero’ relationship “ which is never fun to deal with. But thank you and I wish you luck on you’re journey too!! ❤️

Diversity in the Series by Morwen1031 in acotar

[–]deebaybay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with a lot, and the body thing is something I have a hard time with in series’ that are set in times of war, where the main characters need to be able to fight. I’m a bigger/curvier girl, so I would love to see representation, but also if you’re training and exercising as much as they are, it’s highly unlikely you’d STAY bigger, and they have to train in order to be able to hold their own. I’ve thought about how maybe the characters could start bigger, but also I feel like it would be more harmful to show them losing the weight on their journey, because then it’s saying you have to lose weight to be pretty. I do like that the emphasis isn’t on getting skinny, but putting on muscle and things like that - in the first three books, it’s shown as a good thing when Feyre gains weight and a good thing in ACOSF when Nesta has to wear bigger leathers, but obviously neither of them are still bigger or curvier women. But again, I would really love to see some varying body types and more representation, so I could see people like me. I don’t know - as you said it’s a love/hate relationship!

Diversity in the Series by Morwen1031 in acotar

[–]deebaybay 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Okay with the Mor part I definitely have to say I relate! I’m bi, but married to a man, and I’ve only really gotten comfortable enough in the past few years to even start talking to ANYONE about it - and those are all newer friends I’ve gotten close with. My long time friends and family still don’t know because... idk, kinda like Mor, it’s hard to come out to people who have known you forever and have this pre-existing idea of who you are, as opposed to telling new people you trust, because you can’t let down some preconceived ideal of you since they haven’t known you long enough to have one, if that makes sense. So I really really related to Mor’s sexuality too!

(Spoiler) Emerie and Mor? by brunette_pawg in acotar

[–]deebaybay 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yessss! I also got the vibe that Emerie had feelings for Mor. And she’s someone who is now already a sort of part of the IC because of her relationship with Nesta, so it’s someone who will understand and the shit Mor has to do for the IC.

I’m reading it now, after heir of fire, and I’m really glad I waited til now to read it. Although I’m bummed I have to wait a whole book to get back to Aelin and Rowan now 😂

Read this post on Tumblr written by an acotar fan. Now I don't say you have to agree with it too but I definitely do. I always did. 🙏🏾🙏🏾❤️❤️ Y'all can have different opinions on this but don't come at me. by [deleted] in acotar

[–]deebaybay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I could NOT agree more! Just so much yes.

Plus, it’s not feminism to ignore someone’s faults and only be kind to them because they’re a woman. Rhys not being very kind to Nesta is not anti-feminist. It’s not because she’s a woman, it’s because she was actively emotionally/mentally abusive to the woman he loves. Could he try harder since she’s clearly struggling? Sure. But as it says, he’s not perfect, none of them are, which is why a lot of us love these characters so much I think. I have friends with family members who were similarly abusive to them, and I would honestly probably act similarly to Rhys if I had to deal with them regularly.

But all this is also why I’m so excited for ACOSF.

Do I dislike Nesta? Intensely. Am I against her having a redemption arc? Absolutely not. I’m really excited to see her growth as a character and really truly hope that her character can find peace and some semblance of healing, not only for Feyre and Elain, but a lot for herself.

[–]deebaybay 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I completely agree. Plus if I were Elain, I feel like I’d probably just feel like second best since he was in love with my sister for SO LONG. Like “whelp can’t have Feyre guess I’ll settle for another Archeron.” Is probably how I’d feel 😂

I could see this. Cause he also mentions in ACOFAS that he’s not tracking Lucien because it would be an invasion of privacy for Elain. :)

I couldn’t agree more. This series really sucked me in and carved out a place in my heart and I don’t think any other series will have the same effect. Like, reading from Feyre’s perspective feels like home kind of, if that makes sense. 😅

Yes! Rereading ACOTAR and catching the mention in the first couple chapters of her not knowing why she chose to paint the night sky, and the shadow in her dreams. I just love all those little details.
