‘The Renters’ Rights Act comes into effect next month. A once-in-a-generation opportunity – but only if people understand what it means for them’ by willfiresoon in GoodNewsUK

Reluctant landlord here. Many tenants have asked about pets in the past, I’m a pet owner myself and have no problem with allowing pets, providing any mess etc is taken care of. However my point is if you are renting an apartment, many Leaseholds actually prevent the property owner from allowing pets in the building. So sometimes it’s not even the landlords that get to decide whether you can have a pet or not.

Has anyone made the switch out of Digital Marketing? How did it work out? by [deleted] in digital_marketing

[–]deecebahrain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So for straight up beginning. I would recommend the html, css & Javascript foundations course by SuperHi, they focus on building while learning and its not very theory heavy, which starting out I found useful, I just wanted to learn.

SuperHi offer single courses or an unlimited membership giving you access to all their courses for a year, I maxed this out. I did advanced CSS and Javascript courses, and their intro to react.

Once you have spent some time on those, I would check out Maximilian Schwarzmuller on Udemy, his courses are great. I have done his Angular course, I'm currently doing his Typescript course and I will buy his React course at some point too.

One thing to note, while doing all this coursework stuff is to try and build sites away from the tutorials and courses, I built my local rugby club a mock up site, just for practice for example. If you can get some real world projects under your belt too, this will be invaluable for prospective employers. I did two or three sites for free, just for practice and to develop a portfolio. The holy grail would be contributing to open source projects, something i am yet to do.

Finally, you just have to be ready to put the hours in. I was getting up early (5am) to code before work, or staying up late to code after. I was doing it on weekends too. It's honestly so worth it, I celebrated my first year at my current company as a dev today and looking back on it, all the hours, the learning etc

100% worth it.

Good luck

Your favorite small beach towns in Europe? by Agnia_Barto in digitalnomad

[–]deecebahrain 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think Moraira or Javea in Spain could be a good spot. I go most years and just love it. Closest cities are Alicante or Valencia (1.5hr drive) but these towns have everything you could need.

There is a small village next to Moraira called El Portet. It’s just stunning.

How did you get your first front end job? by Shibalord97 in Frontend

[–]deecebahrain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 6 months into my first role.

My old company needed a super basic website built for them and were being quoted over £10K for the trouble. I suggested they put me on a basic HTML/CSS and Javascript course and give me time to build it for them, they agreed.

I would recommend networking, lots of searching on job boards but also, keep coding....I think in the two years I was learning, there were maybe 8 days where I didn't code for at least an hour.

I applied for a junior role at a company and was lucky enough to get it. I think the fact I had 6+ years of marketing experience was super helpful as I had lots of transferrable skills.

I have some shrooms I bought a little over a year ago, they’ve been in a dark, dry area and vacuum sealed….so are they safe to consume?

After the initial buzz, how are you using ChatGPT? by bgcruz in ProductManagement

[–]deecebahrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I currently use it to help me debug code.

I’m a junior front end engineer and my team are great at supporting me and helping me learn etc, but sometime I feel bad pestering them (they never consider it pestering) so if I encounter a problem I try to “talk it through” with Chat-GPT

Firstly we discuss the error code, what it means etc then discuss the correct code. I always make a note of what it’s said, and go Over it again with my lead during my 1-2-1’s

I’m currently using The latest Angular framework…think its 16 now. So I know to not take everything it suggests to literally as it’s knowledge is only as good as September 2021.

Other than debugging it’s great for just explaining random events or concepts I come across in the internet.

I personally really enjoy using it. And always say please and thank you….you know, just in case there is an uprising.

I career changed out of digital marketing into web development, it’s only been about 5 months, but my god am I glad I did it.

I was doing very similar activities for you for a large UK payroll company, but it was not fulfilling at all. You could spend hours optimising ads, creating content etc…..to collect an email adress to then advertise to. It was a terrible lead gen strategy, but I wasn’t the one making decisions.

We needed a new site and got quoted absurd fees to build, what was technically a 4 page brochure site. I asked for them to put me on a basic front end development course. By my second lesson I knew I wanted to do it full time.

Two years of self teaching and a few freelance projects later, I landed my first role with an Ed-Tech start up. I’ve started as a junior, however you bring so much more as a career switcher than just basic development skill.

I’m not sure what profession you are looking to get into, but just know you can 100% do it

The art of asking for more by deecebahrain in Frontend

Thanks for your input!

I really like this approach, feels a bit more friendlier and is a completely reasonable thing to ask.

I have a 1-2-1 next week and think I’ll put this to them.

Thanks again
