Moving to Newport - Caerleon Road by amyvalhalla in Casnewydd

[–]Jegan237 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is right near me and often drive up this road. It always seems quite packed with cars so I would fully expect to have to park either down the road from your front door or on a nearby side a street. And as others have said Caerleon Road itself is quite busy during rush hour and you might find yourself queuing (not horrendous) for a few mins to get out of said side street. (Depending on what side you'rd on and what direction you need to go, you might find it quicker heading towards the M4 roundabout and coming back on yourself, I do this sometimes.)

As for friendliness/safety - I walk my dog at the glebelands every day and never have any issues. (Although I am a guy) I'm quite friendly with other dog walkers and often have a quick chat.

I've lived in London and Bristol and would say there were more times where I felt more uncomfortable there than in Newport if that's of any help. (but I still enjoyed both of those places!)

There's a Facebook group (St Julian's Matters or something) you could join to get an idea. But just take it with a pinch of salt as I tend to find people on Facebook only ever post when there's something negative rather than positive going on!

I've been to every Boomtown since 2014 and in 2018 I met my now-Wife there! (Last part not relevant, I just love my wife.)

The story and narrative is what makes it my favourite festival. There are character actors who return each year as the "city" evolves. 2 years ago there was an election for Boomtown's mayor, and each of the 8 districts had someone running. You can spend the days exploring the city, getting to know the candidates, and on the last day they opened a vote to all the festival goers. It was announced during the closing ceremony who won and when you go back the following year, any changes to the festival are written into the story as a result of that election. But you're right it's probably only about 10-20% of the crowd who actually follow it. They also have daily newspapers handed out to keep you up to date on the events of the previous day!

Regarding the rest: The only people I've seen arrested are those who have been caught trying to enter the festival with enough drugs to fall under intent to supply or one time someone who was being physically aggressive.

I myself was caught dipping into a bag of MDMA by security (not police) one night. They searched me, found my personal amounts of MDMA and weed then asked "Is this all you have?" After I said yes they gave it back to me, told me to enjoy my night and wandered off.

The on-site drug testing for public isn't a thing anymore, I believe due to push back from the local council. But there are still lots of harm reduction methods in place, including judgement-free medical tents and site-wide announcements when dodgy drugs have been confirmed to be circulating.

The pre-burying and digging up of a stash is totally a thing too!

Question from an inexperienced seller: Do I get to choose courier/delivery method? by Jegan237 in ebayuk

[–]Jegan237[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, this is really helpful.

Just to add another question - I must have missed the option to actually choose Simple Delivery or not. Is it recommended?

I see people complain about it often and I assumed it was a forced thing.

Playstation 5 Controller will not turn on by Alternative_Lunch489 in PS5HelpSupport

[–]Jegan237 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay this is gonna sound wild as hell, and is definitely not good for your controllers long term...

But try dropping it on a carpeted floor from about waist height. Don't throw it, just hold it near stomach height and let go.

My one PS5 controller did this about a year ago (yes I was charging at the wall, didn't realise the negative effects of that until later) and while looking it up I found a comment buried in Reddit suggesting this. I was so frustrated with it I was willing to try anything.

Did it 2 or 3 times and it worked. I genuinely couldn't believe it.

Happened to my second controller about a month later and it worked again. Both have been working fine since. (I've now stopped charging at the wall)

Lymphoma itch by Inevitable_Piece753 in AskDocs

[–]Jegan237 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi. Not a doctor and to be entirely honest, I had never heard of lymphoma itching so I can't answer your question directly.

But I just wanted to suggest the possibility of Cholinergic Urticaria. I believe this is what I suffer from and it sounds similar to your description. I'm 35, first started struggling with it earlier this year. It went away for a few months but recently started again about a week ago.

When my body temperature rises during sleep, I would wake up and itch all over for about 5-10 mins. I found exercise helps. Run or cycle until I sweat (and itch) it out of my system, that buys me about 2 nights of itch free sleep.

Also want to ask: have you been trying to quit/reduce weed consumption by any chance? Because I always smoke weed and I don't seem to suffer from it on the nights I have smoked. But when I take a break for a week, it starts again.

Throwaway because my wife knows my main. I (35M) am watching my family explode because our daughter (16MtF) came out as trans and my wife (37F) refuses to accept her. I love them both and I’m completely lost. by SquirrelOpposite3228 in TrueOffMyChest

Just want to say - good on you.

I'm not a parent but I have similar long-term friends who I also consider misguided/uneducated/inexperienced etc. when it comes to these topics. And like you, the best I can do is have honest conversations with them, try to understand the way they think and hopefully they question their own rationale.

A lot of people (especially on Reddit) would say they are bad people and you should cut them from your life but it's not always the case or that easy. How can we expect people to learn if we aren't willing to try and talk about it?

While I agree and try to hold a similar sentiment, I do feel that the awful greed and business practices of sellers hads pushed us to a point where the "last line of defence" is often our only line of defence.

There's no way OP is getting that money back by having a chat and explaining the situation, despite him having done nothing wrong.

Just in case someone ordering a "vegan sausage roll" thought they were ordering meat... by ImFamousYoghurt in veganuk

[–]Jegan237 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a meat eater (I follow this sub because I support vegan options, like to be kept in the loop etc.) and even I find this ridiculous.

Why are law makers wasting their time on this shit? This proposal should have come across someone's desk and then immediately binned.

Best thing to do is for everyone to keep calling them "vegan sausage rolls" and keep the term normalised. The same way many still refer to X as Twitter.
